after about 100 watches i finally realized that Chan is the demon inside Hyunjin’s performer, driving for more perfection, creativity, productivity, etc. is why Chan is standing over him with glowing eyes and lifts him later in the choreo. the way Hyunjin interacts with the chains is his struggle to tame that drive. the mirror choreo reflects they are two parts of a whole. to me, the red lights are the after-effects from bright stage lights that Hyunjin sees when he closes his eyes.

i think this is just a personal interpretation for you tho? so when you used the word "realized" as if it's factual kinda confused me. for me personally, i interpreted it as both the inner self controlling you (your interpretation) AND as a sexual love-hate relationship "tell me you hate me, i can't handle you anymore" as in 'i am feeling these feelings that i don't want, and i am desperate for a way to avoid and end them, but i can't' which will make more sense if they're portraying a same sex couple (which i think is what they're doing, if it is the actual meaning though). and the "make you feel my love" lyric?? it sounds like a making love thing lol. but in the end it's just art, and it's up for interpretation. but yea, the mirror scene sold me to your theory lol, so yours is probably closer. honestly, if we're gonna stop being all deep about it here, it looks and sounds like a BDSM love making song by the mv and the lyric xD. hyunjin even said it himself "this is a bit erotic..😳" when he reacted to the mv of vlive..also chan when he reacted to it, he was so flustered because it is basically a racy mv.

Break down of the story for this song... Basicaly Hyunjin resently said in a live that this song was about alter egos and how one is stuck and the other is free. Also BangChan also metioned that they referenced the character venom and again with alter egos. And the make you feel my love part is about how the other ego trys to reach him and take over. And the part when he says " you know I cant leave you alone" is like how he cant get away from the toxic.

I most definitely get the Eyes Wide Shut/Mullholland Drive vibe, especially when the other dancers come in as supportive to Chan and Hyunjin. This entire MV was most certainly something and went up a level in terms of aesthetics for sure; they certainly know how to captivate their fans. Compulsion, Need, Sinister Sensuality (as you put it), and just the pure unadulterated want of someone and of oneself was exciting to watch. This is certainly an MV that deserves a full choreography/performance video in the future.

loved the reaction, glad you liked it! funny how you said the word compulsion because that is actually the korean name for it compulsion/obesession. in song camp chan and hyunjin actually talked about it and they related it to work, saying that they feel some sort of obesession towards it but they actually like it. i interpret the mv as the ropes and chains being that thing that they are obsessed about and how they are trying to scape from it but probably even enjoy it a little bit. idk, they did say that we should watch it multiple times to really decipher what it means.

Yeah and the lyrics reflect that. They say they’ve lost control and are “staying up all night again” and that they are seeing red lights (telling them to stop, representing obsession/ and representing exhaustion) that when they try to run away they set the mic up again because they can’t leave us (stays) alone and have to prove their love. It’s representing both of their obsessions with perfection and Chan’s insomnia and chronic need to work that traps them

Wow! The only intelligent person who reacted referring to "Eyes Wide Shot" by S. Kubrick and not only that cheap BS 50 shades etc stuff. Bravo! As you said "compulsion" my jaw dropped, cause that was exactly what Hyunjin & Chan wanted to express.... You got the message precisely. they did it in sexy/racy vibe for sure, but it was on purpose/to be provocative ... for kinda wow effect, Chan said he wants it to be like "Wow!! What did I just watched? I want to see it again.." as they was discussing concept of the MV with the film director. All the ideas (even outfits/chains/choreography) belongs Hyunnie and Chris. Imho they surely achieved their goal. This song+MV is a masterpiece and groundbreaking, smth very special, elegant and addictive, not common for K-Pop at all .... it's on another level.
