In stray kids I.N is the only one born in 2001 meaning he has to use more formal language to all of them in Korea age is a really big thing and people of the same age usually have closer friendships since you can speak Informally to them. In kpop groups especially the line between ages gets blurred so in most groups it not an issue actually in most groups the Maknae ( meaning the youngest) gets away with the most as the older members or hyungs adore them. So I believe it was more of Jeongin getting used to being more open to people older than them. But in usual Korean society being older gives you a lot of power over people younger than you so while friends of different ages aren’t uncommon usually people closest friends ore people of the same age. At least that is what gathered as I’m learning the language and the culture.

I love One Kids Room, it really showcases how close they all are. As for IN, he's actually not that much younger, he's only 5 months younger than Seungmin, Felix, & Han but seniority/formality is a big deal in Korea so they see things much differently

In actuality, I.N is less than five months younger than Han, Felix, and Seungmin -- he's literally closer in age to them than they are to Hyunjin (who's about six month older than the September triplets). But because of how Korean age is figured, the four 2000 babies are all considered the same age (21 in international, 23 in Korean), while I.N (20 international, 22 Korean) is considered a full year younger. And their aging/year system is much more distinctly separated than ours, so that one year is considered to set him fully apart from them and make him very much their junior and them his seniors (which is a big thing in the Confucian hierarchy system of Korea). Even when he turns (international) 21 in a few weeks and would be considered by westerners to be the same age as the other four 21-year-olds, he won't be seen that way, since individual birthday is irrelevant to how age is calculated; only year matters, and he's 2001 to their 2000. And while SKZ has a "maknae on top/maknae first" policy (a wise decision by Chan that I've thought about a lot but won't get into here) and I.N is adored and indulged and could basically burn all their belongings in the front yard and just get cooed at, and they treat him with respect and encourage closeness, he's nonetheless grown up in a system where age (and other) hierarchy is still heavily encoded and enforced (frequently to the disadvantage of the younger/lower ranked). yay finally you're reacting to one kids room too!! this is a too much information but hyunjin really sees i.n as his real younger brother since hyunjin is the only child in his family. and we can see it through this video how he is really talkactive and excited to talk about i.n. can't wait for the next ep!
