Skip the first 24 minutes. I'd trim it down, but I didn't realize I was on the wrong screen for most of the stream. Now I can't trim the video because the live chat won't be visible if I do. Next time, I'll make sure to always check that I am on the right screen while I'm shooting. Also, I won't forget my glasses next time. Glasses Camera Makeup without glasses looks so weird! 😩 Just finished listening back to the whole thing.... so many incompleted thoughts! Gah! I go off on tangents and forget what I'm talking about. And sometimes I completely miss the point of the comment I'm responding to. Ugh! I hope I do better next time.

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah. Hopefully, I can do this every other week. But I do need to figure out how to stay more focused. Listen to it again, I'm forgetting to finish so many thoughts, and sometimes I miss the point of the question being asked. I was a bit nervous, so it might be better when I do it next time.

@@TheSwordAndThePenREFLECTIONS A hockey youtuber named THG has a whiteboard behind him with all the topics written down that he looks at as he talks, it doubles as a visual aid for the audience. If it helps, maybe you can do something similar (plus it might focus the audience's questions/comments)

@@CaseyYam I was thinking of just such an idea. Sort of a wallpaper on the screen.

Firstly, thanks for the conversations, yo! And don't worry too much about tangents and half-points, this is a huge topic that could be delved into for years. Being more broad and vague is fine for this sort of overview, great convo starters. Overall 10/10 of a first stream, gg! Secondly, shoutout to the Wheel of Time crew for showing up. Alex, Dain, Tryp, Pips, Disparu, (and whoever else i missed), y'all are legends. Thirdly, some actual on-topic thoughts: -On adapting geography, two great examples are Peter Jackson's LotR trilogy compared to Amazon's Rings of Power. In one, we can feel the distance the characters face and overcome. Every step of the way feels hard-earned. In the other, a casual afternoon stroll can take one from the halls of Rivendell to the doors of Moria. Another elf can swim halfway around the world, without expecting issue. And literally geography, a volcano can be kickstarted with a water stream (which activated by some sword-key built years before the channel was ever hand-dug, idk, that show..) For another set of nicely contrasting examples, Game of Thrones vs The Witcher. In GoT, they firstly have one of the cleverest uses of an intro for establishing a world. That map flyover is perfect. They also put in a ton of work to make each location look different from the others. Everything from the colors we see on screen, to the clothing people wear, everything works to establish the setting. For The Witcher, try looking at any given setting, any given cast, and pick out where they are.. -Controversial Wheel of Time opinion: a live action adaptation with these actors could have worked, if they were adapting the books. The only commonality between the two series is names. Characterization, themes, the magic system, the plot, none of it matches. Seriously, when someone who has only read 4ish books has a better understanding of the way saidar and saidin work than anyone who approved this show.. Something's wrong. Not that someone shouldn't know mostly how it works after 4 books, but that is literally all the effort required to avoid completely derailing the adaptation. I don't know, when millions are on the line, why put in the work? Well, looking forward to the next chat, and for the rest of the Wheel of Time book series reviews!

Thank you! And those are all excellent examples. I have very few complaints about the art department (at least for the second season) or the actors. I honestly don't think it would be all that hard to condense this story. It would require some big changes, but those can be done without dishonoring the source. Ideally, we should have one season per book, but I can't picture any studio greenlighting such a. Bug project, even though Game of Thrones proved that there is a huge audience for a well-developed story and thoroughly explored characters.

@@TheSwordAndThePenREFLECTIONS I would forgive every sin of this show if they had the courage to end it with Rand hearing "I win again, Lews Therin", and waking up at a certain stone.

Just sat down to listen... Sad I missed the livestream, but I remember the delighted noise I made when I saw the notification (I was on a phonecall so embarrassed myself a little :P) Even the nerves I hear in your voice at the start of stream make me adore you more. People who care about what they're doing really do offer more. Hope this is the valve you need to share your observations and expertise while avoiding the urge towards perfection. Wishing you well in all things, particularly your health. I'm certain you will continue to demonstrate how amazing you are

Haha! I guess being nervous worked to my advantage 😋 I think livestreams will work great for me. Gonna do another on the 5th (I decided it won't be a bad thing if fewer people come). I don't know much about the Fallout lore, but I enjoyed the whole show. On its own, it told a fun and interesting story. I watched it twice and it was great both times. I thoight the idea of VaultTech starting the war was brilliant. Really loved how much weight that history carried when it was finally revealed.

Solid first episode, you're off to the races! Edit: Oh yea like I said on stream, interview with the vampire tv... season 1 solid, but season 2 is some of the most intelligently crafted tv ive seen in years... I thought shogun was the best show this year so far, but interview season 2 running laps around it :P

@@TheSwordAndThePenREFLECTIONS Sometimes the best things come organically. It wasn't what you had planned but I think that's ok, it was very good, very informative for a first livestream and everything worked, not technical issues from what I saw. Being a bit more of a sci-fi reader, although I don't think it's at all easy to put onto screen it was interesting to hear your comments and wish to watch Foundation, which I have mixed feelings about, having loved the books when I was younger, but thinking it would be impossible to adapt for TV or film, it would be interesting to get your views on that at some time in the future. I'm not sure you can do a side by side read (or listen) to the source material whilst watching the TV series because it's not really the same story, maybe you can listen to the books on Audible and then you'll be prepared for the Apple TV show. I think Fantasy, when done well translates better to the screen for some reason, maybe because it's more character driven and when sci-fi is adapted those making it want special effects and action scenes everywhere. Also I'm not a huge fan of dystopian sci-fi and that's what there seems to be a lot of. Anyway just a few thoughts for the future. As usual great content though however imperfect you thought it was (j/k). Look forward to the next one.

The waiting room music/soundscape is very pleasant, all too often the music used is overdramatic.
