Hello, I originally planned to use Moonlight+Sunshine+Nordvpn Meshnet to connect from my Company PC to my Gaming PC, but unfortunately my Company PC couldn't connect to my Meshnet network when I'm connected to the company network, possibly because of port blocking. So I heard that Tailscale uses non standard ports, now everything works perfectly for me, thank you so much !

@CloudGamingCouchАй бұрын
That's a slightly more complex matter. In theory, Moonlight supports Wake-on-Lan, but in practical terms turning on the computer remotely might have a number of issues, including security issues. It is doable, but depending on your specifications, it can get tricky (apple straight away forbids it on their systems). On the other hand, having the PC in sleep mode or hibernating and waking it up from moonlight works absolutely fine.

I think you can buy a wireless socket and control it (on/off) from remote. There is an option in Bios for the computer to power on when you plug the cable in it, and it will automatically starts. After that, install Parsec and let it be opened as a startup up, acces your pc remotely and then start opening the Sunschine and Moonlight, configure it. After configuration, exit Parsec and enter the Moonlight.

I don't think that's a probable outcome. Tailscale already have paid options and they have actively chosen this area of their business model to be free. But even if they changed their mind, I have another video in this channel where I show how to do the same thing with Nord VPN Meshnet, which is free too. @CloudGamingCouch3 ай бұрын
The general consensus is that UPNP is usually more convenient for gaming, but not necessarily faster. It depends on the type of server you are connecting to. But personally, I don't care at all, because UPNP is such a big security hole, that I would never enable it, even if it improved my latency. Sure, jumping from a plane without a parachute is faster... but is it safer? :D

@CloudGamingCouchКүн бұрын
First of all, a properly working Sunshine/ Moonlight setup is by definition much better than Steam Link. Now, remote connection is more dependant on the quality of your connection, for obvious reasons, but in good conditions it's very playable. This being said, 4K 60fps is going to be very difficult with a remote connection unless the conditions are extremely favourable. At least, by today standards. As time passes and we get better connection standards, it will become more and more feasible.

Hi. What's the bandwidth for the new network? That's quite relevant since it might have nothing to do with Tailscale. One test you could do is to try NordVPN Meshnet ( I have a video about it too). If it lags with that one too, then the issue is probably the new network.

hi there. Glad to hear you find the tutorial helpful. Unfortunately no one has reported such problems with Win11 and Tailscale recently. In fact, my version is running on Win11 without issues. Assuming the usual suspects are covered, such as running it as admin, updating your Windows and making sure your antivirus isn't stopping Tailscale from running, the next thing I would do is to check your services to see if Tailscale appears there when you try to open it. Is the process there at all? Do you get any error messages?

Is it possible to not install anything on the client at all, but just log in from the browser? Because clients can be different devices, and you don’t want to download moonlight again every time.
@CloudGamingCouchАй бұрын
No, the whole idea is to use the client. In fact that's the main reason Moonlight is available for every format under the sun. Downloading and installing Moonlight is usually the fastest and quickest part of the process. Also Moonlight provides a much more streaming friendly format than a browser. Browsing on a PC is ok, but on some other devices like a TV playing from a browser is awful. Moonlight solves that.

I appreciate the helpful information; however, I am wondering about the safety of this. I am currently on a public network and I would like to stream my pc through tailscale without allowing access to my PC to others on the Lan. I'm sure that it isn't an issue now as I already need a vpn to use moonlight, but I would like to be safer in the future with other LAN's. Is there a way to configure sunshine to only allow computers on tailscale to access the stream? Could I use the tailscale provided ip address in external IP setting to achieve this?
@CloudGamingCouch3 ай бұрын
Hi. I have thoughts :) First of all, this setup compared to the traditional "manual port forwarding" is WAY safer. So, for starters, I'm explaining a much more secure and straightforward way to do things. I think that's value in and of itself. Secondly, as you know, Tailscale is essentially a VPN, and being built over Wireguard, it is quite secure. It is considered a pretty safe system in general, and the only alternatives to make this more secure and equally performant require a looooot of manual tinkering, which 99% of the people don't want to go through (me included). This being said, you are still opening remote access to your machine, and that, by definition, is going to be a potential security risk. I guess, if you wanted to be 100% safe, you would use a separate gaming machine that only has games installed into it, and keep it isolated from the rest of your personal network. Of course, that requires some extra hardware. Regarding your question, on Sunshine's option for external IP, you are right in theory, but in practical terms I seriously doubt that option by itself would provide a stronger security and less "back doors" than Wireguard does already. I hope my opinion helped, and thanks for watching!

Hey, great video i want to use it to play some games on trips on my mac on my gaming pc at home. I tried it out and it works but it alwys says on the client "slow connection to pc, reduce bitrate" except putting the bitrate to a minimum is there anything else i can do to make this better? For the test my mac is on a 5G mobile network. And another question, is it possible to remotely start my pc through that?
@CloudGamingCouch5 ай бұрын
Hey. Regarding the bitrate, it is very bit dependant on the bandwidth. Yes. Besides the bitrate setting, there are other options to tweak such as resolution, frame rate or frame pacing, but at some point you might need to accept that a 5g connection isn't going to give you a high resolution streaming with high quality image and low latency the way a regular high speed wifi would do. Regarding starting your PC remotely, it is possible, but it does require a bit of network knowledge. But it is possible to use the "Wake On Lan" option from Moonlight to wake up a sleeping/ hibernating system. It's what I do, so your Pc won't use almost any energy until woken up. If you do it, I recommend checking your Windows settings and disabling the security password after sleeping. (But keep it after reboot, for security purposes). Just my 2 cents.

(Although that isn't really true) not by default, but you could configure an option called "exit node" in order to "blend in" with the crowd the same way those other services like NordVPN do. Possibly. I just ran a quick speed test on Ookla and I was getting 10 times that speed on my 5g connection, which actually rivals my wifi, although the pin was higher on the 5G, and probably stability is lower too. That totally sounds like a security setting. The Legion go uses Windows, right? And your phone is either android or ios. The only difference between them is the OS.

Yes legion uses windows and my phone is an android. Security setting in my legion or pc? Where do I fine it to change it?

Sorry, not really sure, but it's my only explanation for one working and not the other. I don't own a Legion Go so it's very hard for me to tell.

Hi, is this safe or do I need to use a vpn ?. Do I need to disable upnp if I'm using TailScale ?
@CloudGamingCouch2 ай бұрын
Hi. Tailscale IS a VPN, just not one like those that promise to hide your external ip (which is also debatable). As for whether it's safe, I replied a couple of weeks ago to @austinpohjola about this exact matter. He asked exactly about the same thing on this very same video, so check that as I gave him a long reply. Bottom line, it's rather safe...but less so than a local network. Regarding the upnp, in theory, you don't need it. If you are behind a restrictive network, it might help with the latency, but personally... I wouldn't enable it anyway because that IS a bigger security hazard. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Hi. NordVPN have indeed jumped onto the same bandwagon with their meshnet solution. It's pretty much the same thing. Some people prefer one or the other. Some people in the channel have confirmed they had issues with Tailscale and Meshnet worked for them, but many others are using Tailscale happily. I guess it's a matter of taste and what your router's configurations works better with.

@@CloudGamingCouch Thanks 👍. Another question, after installing it do I need to use TailScale even when connecting in the same network or only when using different ones ?.

Hi there. As usual it's hard to evaluate from here. Does your streaming work well when you only use Moonlight and Sunshine without Tailscale? If the answer is yes, then I would try using Tailscale but testing on a really low resolution and frame rate on Moonlight, just to see if you get an stable connection.

any method to fix high ping issue bro?😅
@CloudGamingCouchАй бұрын
Network Latency (or ping) is very dependant on your connection to be honest. The first port of call would be lowering your bitrate or even your resolution to see if that improves your latency.

Never use gaussian blur filters to hide private information. It is secure only for human eye but easily recovered by AI.

Oh, interesting! What do you recommend to hide delicate info then?
@JamesSmith-ix5jd16 күн бұрын
@CloudGamingCouch Solid color, clear enough for it to be understood as hiding something, like bright red. Black or gray can blend with the content, which may not be the desired effect.
