Was thinking the exact same thing! Heavier line and make sure the knots are tied well and you will be set. No need to get more expensive rods (poles). Also was laughing to myself about them all using the spinning reels upside down!

Ok, just at the start of the video, that first frame with Rae in it is just perfect! The composition! kudos to the people behind the camera and production. And Rae couldn't add more to the vibe. It's perfect. I am a painter... that would make such a lovely painting, honestly. When a video completely gets you already in the very first frame... heck, that's quite something. :) (and I am not a super fan of anything. As an artist, I just like high quality visuals... )

A stronger line might help you but I'd honestly just recommend getting yourself something like a telescopic fishing net to help you lift the fish out of the water, or, since you're next to the beach, instead of trying to lift the fish with the line, just walk back to the beach and pull the fish up on land. This video really made me miss fishing, used to do it a lot when I was younger but probably been 30 years since I was last out fishing.

it wasn't the poles. You needed thicker gauge fishing string and an extended net. rather than pulling the fish completely out of the water and on to the dock you use the net to scoop the fish out of the water. the thicker gauge string will help carry the weight of bigger fish and resist snapping.

as someone who grew up fishing you can catch a big fish on a 40$ rod and reel combo from walmart as long as spring for a higher test line. The line that came on those reels was probably 5lb test as long as you get a higher rated line youll bring in more fish without the line snapping.

Ik you will probably never see this, but here’s a good fishing tip. Get a hand held fishing net or something with thick netting around it, to put in the water to help you take the fish out of the water. Nets are very handy, especially when dealing with bigger and heavier fish, like catfish, so you don’t constantly break your lines. Loved the video, can’t wait to see more. 🤗

Getting out into nature, getting dirty with your hands is so needed sometimes. Especially for you guys. I live in Hawaii and im always doing some type of outdoor activity every week. Fishing is my favourite pastime and one thing about this vlog was the fact that Rae and the girls wanted to fish. I have taken and taught quite a few females and kids fishing....and i know the waiting to catch one can make them impatient and bored......But when they have caught and landed their 1st fish ever, they have become hooked on it and cannot wait to catch another. I and most kiwis in NZ were always taught as a tradition that the 1st fish you catch when you go fishing ,you return back to the sea/ocean/river /lake as an offering , and anything you catch thereafter you can or may choose to keep if it is of legal size. Good onya Rae ,gals and guys....Best of Luck next time on you next fishing trip...(Take a telescopic catch net next time)
