Now that it's the new twenties we should bring these styles back.

I always thought Googie was cool, and I wish it continued. I feel like if it was mixed with Walt Disney’s Progress City, it’d be perfect.

Im weirdly drawn towards it like anything probably seems more interesting now coz it’s different call it retro escapism lol

The artist that designed the Googie lettering was Frank Mel. A great artist and a friend of mine while we both lived in Phoenix Arizona. Fact his house was in the same neighborhood as my grandparents. And it was taken from 1920s cartoon lettering. I have seen his studio and preliminary work for Googies.

Thanks for story Peter :) I where he tok his inspiration from, but it is a shame there is so little information on this topic.
@peterlynch87685 жыл бұрын
@@RadioRetrofuture it's a shame Frank didn't get more recognition than he did, his brother Ed Mel enjoyed wealth and popularity for painting, this tormented Frank his entire life. Frank designed one of the most important masthead for a genre. Frank was also friends with R. Crumb. I am fortunate to have known Frank Mel in person

One has to understand that the Aviation and the Aviation Age ( machine age, electric age, aviation age, radio age) Was the foundation and the Stylistic Driver of Streamline Modern.. and as such it reached into every bit of American Design at the time.. autos ( chrysler airflow), radios ( to many to name), locomotives ( streamliner became synonamous with trains) , and all modern aircraft of the 30's onward. Archetecture was no different..it was an Esthetic Movement.. and efficiency in radios and buildings was on nobodys mind at all. Airplanes were ! FAST airplanes .. which spelled the most Modern and Exciting Possible

What kind of retrofuture would be in the 20's-30's period ? Atompunk maybe?

The 50s and early 60s are most populat for Atompunk. It became a thing after the use of a-bombs at the end of WW2.

All Archecture is about folks with Money.. wanting to be Noticed.. often so they can make a lot more money. Googie is about Wretched Excess.. in a rather exuberent and joyful expression.
@InsaneNuYawka4 жыл бұрын
Capt Larry - wretched excess may be a tad strong... baroque? Sure . McMansions? Definitely. ..I see Googie using pretty simple materials but in a colorful and fun/creative way.

it took me a secondd to realize why there isn't much Dieselpunk in Europe. the 30s and 40s weren't exactly the best time to be there.

@@RadioRetrofuture or was it 2 words put together, those two words being " go ogle" as in "go ogle you some big ol ______"

@@turbostatic1 No, it was inspired by “googol” which is a number, a 1 followed by 100 zeros, in a form of representing the enormous amount of information the web offers us.
