I'm watching this and amazed by Bill's attitude, passion, smiles, honesty. He is an interesting painter, person. I'm just an amateur and love his concentration on the focal point at the beginning, will Tre to use it. Thank you for all videos you demonstrate, it's a great way to get to know different artists as painters and persons.

The underpainting is a game changer for me. Knowing your composition and values are correct before I apply paint was so helpful. It’s very enjoyable for me. Also going in with thick paint too soon often made a mess. The slow build up of thickness works like magic. Your videos are full of great information presented in plain language. Thank you!

Bonnie Flood recommended to me to go online and watch you as i am a beginner painter Ihad never painted. Had her come to Pawleys Island from Atlanta to give a workshop for me and a few of my friends who were already artist. Actually produced one painting that looked pretty good. I have the passion. Now i need to learn and not get down on myself. Not only did watching you teach but listening to your talk helped me in my mind set. I will take your advice. You have been most helpful to me and I thank God he led me to your lesson. Because nothing happens by mere coincidence an d I think He knew i was getting scared and down. But now will pick myself up and everytime i go to get down i will remember your words. Thank you very much and God Bless

Wow, now I will be able to paint like Bill Davidson & Cindy Baron. Thank you both for this video! I found Bill's value "sketch" was fabulous! a) I wonder if he allowed his underlaying value sketch to dry? Or does he paint right over the wet paint? b) Also, Eric, if there isn't time enough to finish the painting, would you please consider just letting the artist continue til the painting's done and air the finishing half the next day? (ie part 1& 2?). c) Are you committed to a fixed duration? d) I was dying to know if Bill uses the same brushstrokes for the colour portion as he did for the underlaying sketch? e) How much of the underlaying texture shows through on the finished painting? f) Are there passages in his underlaying sketch that are thick and impasto or did he thin his paints before applying them to his canvas?

Bill, you are very insightful regarding the whole process of seeing, capturing the scene, understanding the relationships of the values, focal point relationship and the details. You gave me good advice at the ghost ranch when we were plein air painting. Well done Bill

If you want to paint a sunset, you’ll need to take a photograph for a reference because the lighting changes within seconds. It’s not a subject you can paint on location unless you can see in the dark and paint extremely fast.

Disappointing that they end the demonstration before the colour is applied bearing in mind that judging value in colour is much harder than judging value in monochrome.

Excellent except for color. How and what puddles to mix are the most critical part of color and he completely skips that. Would have bought the video otherwise.

Interesting demo, with lots of good information, but wish he hadn’t divided his composition into two equal plains, as it lost it’s impact, just saying!!
