Kate is a wonderful actor. However, Lee was an amazing model, a fashion model, was painted by Picasso, so an artist’s model, a groundbreaking photographer in her own right, not just Man Ray’s muse and then she became one of the greatest war photographers and correspondents. There are very few women or men who are as phenomenal as Lee Miller. So glad her story is being told. This movie only told a part of her amazing life.

Absolutely. (Bless your father and those like him) I’ve been to the a couple of these camps on a scholarship and while there learned how the dehumanization progression starts slowly… eerily similar to what we are seeing now. When people are hurting often their first reaction is (misplaced) blame onto other groups. We MUST NOT allow this history to be forgotten or it is doomed to be repeated. I’m so grateful they made this story. And pray we all do our part to prevent the process from moving forward.

@@marvinmartin4692 I wish that for you too. (I was fortunate enough to win an essay contest. It was indeed such an impactful experience.) The critics have suggested that the devices used to tell the story in the movie are tired and therefore it is somehow lacking. I don't agree. This is a story known to many, including me, yet it is new to others. The structure negotiates a path between the requirements of both parties and those in between. It is a movie where the action doesn't and cannot detract from the the ability of the cast and script to relate the emotions of the people whose stories unfold. It is movie in which there is nowhere to hide for the cast. They are either brilliant or they fall flat. Here they are without exception at the top of their game.

This movie has not yet come out in Australia, yet I find myself completely captivated by these short videos. Some of the most attractive women in the Hollywood industry are those that let themselves age naturally. Kate Winslet is an incredible example of this because she is playing a role of a woman who captured some of the worst moments in humanity and it is raw, emotional, refreshing, and utterly iconic. It brings us back from the glossy, photo shopping crap that "stars" consistently try to emulate as beauty and perfection, and shows us that life can be hard, brutal, yet still beautiful. And Kate Winslet represents us all as equal, whilst making us feel something by using her incredible talent to make a movie/biopic like this.

I have admired Lee's work, since my study and work in Photography, Fine Arts Degree, in the 90's (then, switched to teaching). I have the book that Miller's son published of her work, the movie is based on. I have been a fan of Kate W', her 4 films before "Titanic". When I heard she was making this film, with Miller's son approval and archive of her work -I really wanted to see it. I am glad the reheard, recreation of her photographs, and the stark truth of the horror of war and Holocaust -who would have a drink, to numb themselves. I am recommending this film to several friend, and family! Like "Oppenheimer" the story of a civilian involved in the War, and the trauma that follows -needs to be told, along with the soldiers.

Taking nothing away from the heroic, moral and courageous stance of Lee , it should also be asked ''on whose side would she be today re the Ukraine war and the genocide in Gaza?'' For in the 1930's the Imperialist powers principally the British and Americans had little choice but to oppose fascist Germany , despite the fact that the US had given birth to the fascist regime in the first place via the Great Crash of 1929, and had a plan (only recently revealed) that would have seen the US occupation of Canada, and thus its opposition to its major imperialist competitor which was the British Empire, that would have made it a defacto ally of Germany. Middle class revulsion against Hitler then, has however polarised somewhat . Now ''the moralising class'' predominantly backs the puppet masters of fascism. The Democrats under Biden are the instigators of not only a provocation against the oligarch Putin, but the instigators of genocide in Gaza. In the UK they are now joined by a Labour Government that fully backs the fascist Netanyahu. Both these parties are funded and fully supported by much of the middle class elites. So where do\would the characters and actors in this movie stand today? Today, when not only Europe was devastated along with the holocaust of the Jews, but that the whole world now faces the very real possibility of a nuclear war and human extinction by what would be the consequence of any form of WW3 ... via near certain irreversible climate change . Just a thought.
@rayprice98193 ай бұрын
There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to ask on whose side would Lee Miller be on today. Today is irrelevant to her story.
@mannatuu3 ай бұрын
@@rayprice9819 It's not at all. As with any character in history , they are part and parcel of a conversation that transcends time . Why art ,why film , if it is meant to be kept in a straight jacket ? Your sort of political line not only guts it of relevance to the human story, it potentially turns it into so much propaganda. Whether you like it or not 'everything' is circumstance . The terrorist or the freedom fighter ??... who's ''freedom'' and under what conditions ?? What the crisis of global capitalism threw up in the 1930's 10 years on from the crash of 1929 has complete relevance to what the crisis of global capitalism is throwing up now in 2024, 16 years on from the crash of 2008. History and the patterns of its epochs are once again repeating themselves with a vengeance . This time round ''democracy'' once again gives birth to fascism, in which history's heroes and victims then, are now paradoxically today... its perpetrators. Perhaps you should get my post deleted if it offends you? As in todays equivalent of ''burning of the books'' Have a nice day.
