"Street Fighter II (ストリートファイターⅡ) is a sub-series in Capcom's Street Fighter franchise of competitive fighting games, originally released as coin-operated arcade games. The Street Fighter II series started with the original Street Fighter II game itself, released in 1991 as a sequel to Capcom's 1987 fighting game Street Fighter.
Street Fighter II - The World Warrior is the first iteration of the Street Fighter II series, released in March 1991. The game features all the basic features that would be carried over to subsequent Street Fighter II editions.
The very first home version produced by Capcom was the SNES version of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, released on June 10, 1992 in Japan and in July in North America. This version introduced the 2-Player Versus Mode that allowed players to adjust their handicap and features a cheat code that allows two players to select the same character." ~ Wikipedia.org

I was 17½ in the summer of '92, and bought this game when it first came out. I'd been playing Street Fighter II, both The World Warrior and Champion Edition, in the arcade for about the past year, and as soon as I heard people at the arcade talking about how it was coming out for the SNES, I went and bought an SNES and patiently waited for SFII to be released. That original copy I bought new for about $50 in '92 is long gone, but I just got another copy in the mail today from eBay. I don't really need it, because I've had an SFII: The World Warrior arcade machine for the past 11 years, which is obviously superior (and the arcade controls are superior to a gamepad as well), but it does have a few things that are unique to it, and also, the hardest difficulty setting (level 7) is significantly harder than the hardest DIP switch setting on the arcade machine (also level 7), especially with regard to M. Bison.

Street Fighter II. The one game that took fighting games by storm in the early to mid 90s. The one game that revolutionized fighting games that we know and love to this day. And the game that created a generation of fans worldwide. And because it was so popular and successful, it was also the game that spawned many clones made by other companies. Some of which did rather well, and some which failed miserably. But nevertheless, Street Fighter II has withstood the test of time.

Goodness the hours I put into this. Nothing like a Saturday morning, waking up and firing this game up. I can't remember it, but I'd always input the Capcom code that I think unlocked the bosses to play. Ryu was my favorite. Vega was the one boss I always had trouble with (and frustrating) because the chickenshit would always climb the cage when his health got low. Timing a 'Shoryuken' dragon punch just right to counter Vega's devastating suplex was always difficult for me.

I remember when i got this i would dream of hidden secrets that could be in the game to unlock the bosses as playable characters so i would riffle through videogame magazines at stores to see if the codes had been discovered until one day street fighter turbo came out and when i got it, it was the happiest day of my life back then. Awesome memories.

Bison (15:13 and 15:39) being low pitched and Blanka (8:32 and 9:14) and having their own Meanwhile Ryu, Ken, Dhalsim, Guile and Vega having the normal one

I was in 7th grade when this came out and this game was what made me beg my parents for a SNES. If I remember correctly, this cartridge was around $70 and $70 back in 1992 is probably $90-100 in today's money. That meant skipping a lot of lunches at school to save up for this. LOL. They tried to say it was expensive because it needed so much memory at an incredible 16mb. Now we look at that and laugh as our cell phone pictures are larger than that. LOL.

I was born in 1996 so I mostly grew up with N64 and GameCube. But as far as the technical limitations, at the time of release the snes and genesis were cutting edge. People today will scoff at this machine, but with older game systems you have to understand that was cutting edge for its time, and that they are the stepping stones for newer and more powerful consoles today. It's more about appreciating it's place in game history rather than looking at how inferior it is to newer consoles. The snes is the great great granddaddy of the Wii U and the son of the NES, and has its part in the systems we have today.

Blanka was always my man, I also loved dhalsim and zangief.. zangiefs jumping power bomb was so hard to do.. who also remembers playing this in the morning but come the afternoon you would be outside playing with friends and then that evening you'd play some again. Amazing times.. we appreciated games more back then than kids do now.

Actually, it's left thumb cross + right index finger shoulder button (R button). Aaaaand there's a manual button input config. in the option mode section. I've never played the SEGA version, though. I'm just stating what I know about the SNES one. :)

The iconic SF2 intro music along with all the other track is rendered SOOOOOOO much better on the SNES than any other version including the original arcade version. Weirdly it is the only version that differs from the arcade coin op and is enhanced on the SNES, i wish there was another version on a newer console with the same SNES music for all the iconic tracks.
