This brought back memories, it's been a long time I had sugar cane, I have tasted ekuru before, and street ice-cream yum yum, you are so right about getting the best meatpie in eateries and not from the streets

Ondo State has got to be one of the most underrated spots in Nigeria. They seem to represent an unwritten hybrid of Itsekiri, Osun-lite Yorubas and Edoid-Ika-Igbo that all-in-all confers this zen mid.-western presence as far as Nigeria goes. I find their cuisine and culture more fascinatingly-palatable (similar story with Ekiti-folk) than those-of the more-mainstream Yorubas.

There is also Ijaw in the state. Ese-Odo area. I schooled with some of them
@Anonymous_Anon882
@Anonymous_Anon882 Жыл бұрын
@@adamsc9049 yup. Apoi and Arogbo (Ijaw). I’m sure there’s a spillover of Itsekiri people in Ondo but Itsekiri people per-se don’t want to identify as Yoruba (the culture and food are more Deltan anyway) so I can’t respectfully include them. They’d rather just be their own people.
@adamsc9049
@adamsc9049 Жыл бұрын
@@Anonymous_Anon882 itsekiris marry Ilaje-Yorubas a lot, especially in the riverine parts of Ondo. I know a few itsekiri people who schooled in Akure, along with Urhobo as well. But yeah, they have their own identity and their dialect is quite distinct, I’ve learnt some of it tho and see some similarities.
