I was brought up on Sesame Street (along with our own home grown kids programming, which in the mid 70s was also fantastic) in my rural village in the UK. I adored Sesame Street in spite of the NYC setting being so totally alien to me. I loved the Muppets, I loved the human characters, I loved the warmth and honesty and fundamental lack of cynicism of it. I loved how lots of the people in it didn't look like me or sound like me, but that nobody batted an eyelid and it was as normal as could be. I'm excited to see this documentary, it looks like it'll do the show justice.

I was born in '64, and was part of that first generation watching this amazing program....truth be told, I still watched it into my teens because the creativity and characters still fascinated me. I grew up in a rural area, so those glimpses of what city life could be like, how close a neighborhood could be, was so different from what I knew. It was, and still is, such a gift to all children....helping through good and bad times, teaching, entertaining, and giving us so much more ❤️

I’m so thankful for this. Sesame Street was a huge influential part of my childhood. Being an 80’s kid from Queens, NY, even some of my grade school classmates made it on the show at the time. This show was such a heartwarming beat of my young life that I needed. And I’m also thankful to HBO for making available all the past episodes, laughing at skits and singing songs decades later I forgot I loved and remembered. 🙏🏽

I loved Oscar the Grouch which worried my mom a bit; I guess she thought he taught kids to be nasty. However, his saltiness helped balance out the show perfectly👌.

The enduring power of Sesame Street is unmatched. I watched it as a 90s kid. I loved it. Literally when a politician gets into a fight with Big Bird just weeks ago you know you’ve got something special. They have the newest episodes, but they don’t own it. Others networks were interested in paying to get Sesame Street, but HBO was the only 1 that let it would let it continue on PBS.

I grew up in Dublin, Ireland and I distinctly remember watching Sesame Street constantly as a kid. There was this one VHS tape that had a few episodes on it and my mam put it on a loop for me when I was very young, still in my high chair. I remember being captivated by it, such a perfect show. ❤️

I'm so grateful to have watched Sesame Street in the 70's in real time, as I'm a year older. So while my mother was listening to albums by Buffy Saint Marie, I was watching her on S st. As a mother and now a Nana, the lessons taught, the exposure to differences is truly invaluable. Sesame Street changes lives.

Sesame street was a huge part of my childhood growing up. Jim Henson really has influenced all of our lives in a positive way with his love of art and people. From sesame street, to the dark crystal, to Yoda in star wars, hes been a part of our life, helping us find the good in the world, whether we've noticed or not.

I know this show was a part of my childhood, maybe not as influential on me personally as Mr. Roger's Neighborhood was, but one thing I remember from Sesame Street as an adult was the musical skits. I wasn't allowed to listen to secular music until I was older (and by "allowed" I mean old enough to sneak around and download it off the late 90's internet), so Sesame Street was basically my introduction to all manner of genres, including pop. Growing up in rural Virginia a kid from a broken home no father figure welfare Sesame street opened my eyes to a world of possibilities and exposed me to all walks of life different ethnic backgrounds and experiences it was transformative and educational for a poor kid with little perspective in an insular community. I grew up with this in the 70s UK, it was on Saturday mornings, and like to think it was a good influence on my life. It was educational, mentally stimulating and bloody good fun. I don't think anything can match it these days, the kids programs today seem to be absolute inane gibberish using bright colours and music to keep a kids attention.

God bless every single person involved with this project from the beginning. While I think the direction the show has gone into the last couple of decades is heartbreaking (moving to HBO - where too many kids might not be able to view it everyday, the gentrification of the set that made the show relatable to inner-city kids), there are so many of us well into middle age out here that will never get the chance to say thank you to their childhood friends on Sesame Street for all they've taught us over the years. So thank you, Sesame Street. I've no doubt many of us will watch this with tears in our eyes for all the memories of our childhoods that will come flooding back.

I just watched this this morning, both because I myself grew up on Sesame Street and because my nearly two-year old son loves it now. This was a wonderful look back at the beginnings and really shining a light on the people who made it what it is. My only disappointment is that while Jim Henson, Frank Oz, and Carroll Spinney got their just dues, I can’t help but notice that Richard Hunt and Jerry Nelson didn’t even get a mention let alone get discussed. I’ve long felt like they’re the great unsung heroes of the Muppets, and they deserve more praise than they get.

I was obsessed w/"Semsa-me Street" ( I couldn't pronounce Sesame when I was 3 -lol ) & so were many of the kids I went to Preschool with. As a Canadian, I got to enjoy Sesame Street TWICE a day because I would watch the American version on PBS in the mornings (Bangor broadcasting to Nova Scotia) to get the Spanish language segments, and then watch it again later in the afternoons on Canada's CBC channel to get the French language segments.
