Ugh. I got tricked into a “street” interview one time while heading to work in DC. Coming out of the metro at Union Station, a young woman who looked lost approached me and said, “excuse me, can I ask you something?” Sure. She then pulls a small microphone out of her pocket and asks me what I think should be done with some building. I told her I don’t know the building. “What has it been used for? Is it interesting architecturally?” “It’s an old building that’s been vacant for years.” I said, “I don’t know, if it’s interesting architecturally, I’ve seen some really cool high lofts made out of old buildings.” About that time, a guy steps out from behind me with a camera and the woman asks if he can take my picture? Click “thanks, have a nice day.” They never said who they were with. A few days later, I see my face in the Washington Post Express (a free newspaper handed out on the metro/subway), next to a quote that I’d like to see the old insane asylum turned into high end lofts.

My brother once got interviewed with some friends by a local paper when he was a kid about what they should build on a big empty piece of land in our town. He said cinema, his friends said cinema, in fact pretty much everyone said cinema as our town didn't have a cinema. . . It turns out that too many people said cinema, so the newspaper just decided to change some answers. When the article came out, there's a picture of my brother (who has never touched a skateboard in his life) saying that "We really need a skatepark, so me and my friends have somewhere to hang".

@@matthewstarkie4254 At one point in my life when the US bombed my city with cruise missiles in broad daylight, over some shit that was made up by big media, and then levelled a Chinese embassy to the ground, but that's a topic for another day, there was a report on CNN where goddamn Cristian Amanpour allegedly tuned in live from the streets of Belgrade. This particular street was my usual route from work and I was there 15 minutes ago. That day wasn't any different from any other, apart from the mangled Chinese embassy, but in the footage the street was completely devoid of parked cars, people, animals, and all reason. And she said that sanctions work, that the city is dead, people hide in the basements, and that we should all subscribe to CNN for more truth. And I guess a few people did. I don't think we need internet for this shit.

Season Four, Episode 22, titled "Woman of the Year" is the most watched episode of the riveting drama 'Doctor Quinn: Medicine Woman". As most people know, director Gabrielle Beaumont initially considered dialing back the lusciousness of Sully's hair in this episode, but an intervention by on-screen lover and off-screen friend Jane Seymour allowed for the full splendor of actor Joe Lando's locks to be witnessed in their entirety. Needless to say, ratings were through the roof.

What I've always disliked about street interviews and "oh my god these people are soooo dumb" is people panic when they get surprise interviewed and sometimes when someone asks you a really simple question you over think it so you don't look stupid and then you end up looking even dumber.

That's kinda the whole problem with the very concept of street inteviews. Why do people feel the obligation to answer what a stranger ask them when in the first place they weren't given any choice over their participation in some impromptu quiz show? And why are so many so willing when there's a big chance they will be made fun off over their answers later on? It all seems very nonsensical to me.

I just watched the Wired Tech Support video in which a licensed private investigator answered questions about his area of expertise. He shared that his team used a mock setup of a "journalist" doing this kind of "man on the street" interview to get the people that they were investigating to talk about how long they'd been in a relationship with each other, thus confirming, on camera, that they were having an affair. Ryan is totally right - you do NOT need to answer any questions posed to you in this way! (And please don't have affairs).

I went to school for journalism and man on the street interviews are being taught in multimedia classes on growing social engagement. While a lot of what me and my friends did in college was harmless sports takes, a lot of these interviewers go in with an agenda, whether it’s random TikTokkers you’ve never heard of to big media corporations. Don’t answer a microphone if you don’t want to. If they keep pestering you, it’s officially harassment.

Ryan, this is so genuinely impressive. You have a real gift for being able to do clever, truly funny comedy, while also doing spot-on insightful, intelligent social analysis so cleverly weaved in that you can easily imagine someone just laughing all the way through and never really noticing that there are serious points being made. So you can laugh your way through and simply have a fun 15 minutes or so, you can laugh your way through while pondering some Deep Thoughts along the way, or you can laugh your way through and maybe later on make a wiser decision in life because of something you picked up on here. Seriously, bravo.

I’m enjoying these editorial format videos from Ryan George a lot more than I had anticipated. Not everyone who is really good at one thing is good at everything or even most things, so it wouldn’t have been much a surprise to see the funny video guy was meh when it came to direct social commentary (which is still stays funny), so it’s refreshing / encouraging to see. The nimbleness and cleverness displayed in the Pitch Meeting videos could have been locked into that particular format, but it’s not and that’s exciting to see.

Man, I was thinking the exact same thing(so synchronistic). Why is there such a surge of these street interviews? , I don't have tiktok, realized it was a gigantic waste of time right when it started, but even the ones I've seen on KZbin is enough for me to become bored and skeptical as to why there's so many of these.

Cynically, I would guess reason one is that people are lonely. Even more cynically, maybe a lot of them occur in glamorous walkable locations where lots of interesting, young people are strolling by. This is the kind of environment people want to be in, so it's not only about the interview but also about the experience of living in NYC, or the like.
