Chris Harrison first discovered photography in 1987. At 16 years old he saw Elliot Erwitt's photo, ‘Great Dane Legs, Boots and Chihuahua’, in a magazine. It lit a flame that started his photography journey.
Throughout the 90s Chris did lots of small photographic projects, mainly around London and also some travel and backpacking trips too.
However, for about 15 years from 2001 onwards he did very little photography for himself. Whilst he still worked with many photographers on commercial design projects, Chris spent his time and energy mainly dedicated to running his own design studio, starting a family and being a hands-on dad to his two daughters.
That all changed in 2016 during a family camping holiday in France which was, by chance, a short distance away from Arles. Until then Chris hadn’t heard of the yearly Arles photography festival, so he checked it out. He saw a joint Sid Grossman, Leon Levinstein and Harold Feinstein exhibition and was immediately reminded why he had fallen in love with photography as a 16 year old kid.
"That chance visit to Arles rekindled my commitment to photography. I’m still plugging away." - Chris Harrison.

There are too many street photographer videos where the photographer thinks that because they have expensive camera gear (usually Leica ) thats all they need ,and produce mediocre at best photos. Its a breath of fresh air to come across a photogher like chris whose main attribute is not gear but talent.

Of the millions of "street photographers" you tubing their wanderings, this is up there with the best. It's not easy finding originality and variation within a relatively small geographical arena but Chris does it so very well. It's a lesson to all aspiring street photographers; get a training in graphic art ! Your book will fly.

This is streetphotography. The pictures are intelligent. you must read them. no fancy analog presets. they are what they are. digital. and thats ok. and perfect arrangend in moment and layout. The Images remind me to Siegfried Hansen from germany. Also a faboulus street shooter. Every Picture has an expression. So much youtube streetphotographers shot random city shots, apply one of their cinematic moody dreamy creamy presets on it and sell this shi.. as Art.

I like to have a go at street photography, but i am not sure i get it... I have just got back from Milan Italy and had my camera with me, i struggled a lot.. So i am asking as i don't actually get most of the photos i see on youtube and have no idea what your seeing or taking how would you like to do a collaboration with me a landscape photographer and see if we can do a video on the why?

Thanks for the inspiration, and just letting the images talk for themselves, and boy were they talking loudly. What great images. I first fell in love with photography at the age of 14 and have studied a degree in photography and worked at the highest level in advertising and publicity. Having 4 children meant I had to stop even taking photos when one of my daughters became very I’ll. That was 25 years ago and as I always promised myself I would start again when the children left home, I am once again shooting. I have been shooting a lot of Street stuff on a Fujifilm XPro 2 but I am in the process of slowing things right down though and will be purchasing a 5x4 field camera for portraits and landscape work. Having moved from London over 26 years ago to Northern Spain my inspiration levels are so high and watching this video has made me super inspired and restless. Thankyou once again for stoking the fire with your unique body of work let us know how we can contribute to your book project.

Really enjoyed this video on “street photography”. It’s such a relaxing hobby, carrying a camera and going out to purposely observe life, capturing a snippet here and there. When I first moved away from home back in the early 80’s, I secured a job at Butlin’s Ocean Hotel. I spent many happy hours walking along that seafront into Brighton. I wish that I’d had an interest in photography back then. Such a great location for a photographer.😊

This made so many things click for me. Such explicit direction for what interest him. No hiding behind vagueness for fear of being judged too clearly. Pure honest reaffirmation. It’s left me with a better intuition for why particular photos resonate with me. Genuinely one of the most impactful photography videos for me.

Finally I’ve found a kindred spirit in the way you shot street photography , (or Fine Art as we called, in my area , when I started in 80/90s ). Your work in SO GORGEOUS. And what I dig is that we shot the same type things. If you saw my work, it would make more sense. I can’t wait to delve into your Art from here on out, as I’ve just discovered your channel! Ty, and the images are AMAZING! -Max Patrick Haynes

I went to school with Chris and I remember how his art came from a visceral beginning of expressions of appreciation for the very stuff of life. Such people never let go of what drives them because it is so much an aspect of their very natures. I’m certainly very fortunate to see where he has gone with this aspect of himself. Congratulations old chum.
