This video is a gold mine. I've been saying how people take photos like, "that picture would do well on Instagram!" and not, "I like this picture and here's the story behind it." I did that for a while, I found that I was getting too focused on the numbers going up and being super self-critical over my work so I just never posted anything, now I take photos that I like and I can post whatever I want, however much I want, there's so much freedom in being yourself. Thanks for making this video!

I resonate with 95% of what he said (with the exception of his tepidness towards taking a bad photo, I fire away xD). It was really nice to see somebody so talented reaffirm a lot of the things I think about photography and reject so many of the negative moods and biases in the photography community. Really loved this little documentary Mike, nice job once again!

An unpopular (it seems) opinion, but I found this episode a bit challenging to watch. While I admire Joe's passion for photography and his technical expertise, his presentation style came across as quite self-assured. I personally prefer a more humble approach, as it can make the learning experience more enjoyable and relatable. Chris and Paul (I didn't see the episode with Dan just yet), in contrast, demonstrated a remarkable balance of skill and humility. Their work is truly inspiring, and their willingness to share their knowledge and experiences in a down-to-earth manner is amazing.

4:00 pretty bold to compare yourself to Saul Leiter...
@Jwhowardphoto9 ай бұрын
Not sure you were paying attention 🧐. I didn’t compare myself to anyone, I was discussing the difference between seeing something and then taking a photo. 😉
@Jonbombs9 ай бұрын
I mean... you literally say you see things that others don't the way Saul Leiter did. That is a comparison
@Jwhowardphoto9 ай бұрын
Again, think you’re taking this conversation out of context. Which is cool, I shall explain for your piece of mind. I’m not comparing myself to anyone. We’re talking about how different people can see the same scene differently. There is no comparison, or better or worse. Some people really don’t like abstract photography like that and some people love it. We’re not discussing quality of work, we’re discussing how people see the world. And we all see it differently, that’s what makes it interesting. If I say Saul Leiter uses his eyes and I do also, then yes I’m comparing myself to him, and every photographer ever. Hope you can sleep well now, knowing I wouldn’t do such a thing. 😂
