I like that you discuss photographers as opposed to their gear to make the pictures. The person behind the machine is what really matters.

Glad you got something out of it. The purchase and research was my indoctrination to his work. What other books/photographers are you a fan of?

@@developingtank I love the work of Gary Winogrand , Harry Gruyaert, Saul Leiter, William Egglestone, Sam Abell just to mention a few, and Alex Webb, which I also saw your video on his work.

I really liked the way you presented the work of Herzog. His photography was pretty much the type of photography I enjoy the most. Unconsciously, without having seen his photos before I took a lot of pics which may have some connection to his work. Of course I don't think I am as talented, but I tend to look at reality with a similar perspective: I love everyday, mundane or apparently uninteresting subjects. I see the beautiful, the ugly and the in-between; anything may have something that draws me or captivates me. Photography for me is passion and joy; my own personal way to say how much I love the world and life. Regards, Manu from the UK

I’m on board with this. His street style is so much different from what is usually regarded as great. He’s never 3 feet away from a person and seems to be one of the least intrusive street photographers of all time. Really shows how much variety there can be in the genre.

Dig the Deep Dive on both Fred Herzog and Alex Webb...the clear, crisp talk on what matters most in Street Photography while showing their images. Plus the 'Developing Tank' title works/fits. Thanks for the effort.

Although everyday I come home with at least "one good photo". I just feel like my photography works aren't being appreciated. In the world where photography is marketing and following trends. Or, maybe I'm surrounded with the wrong group of people. But finding this video, makes me feel hopeful and keeping my head up. I may feel desolate and sad; but I think it is better for myself to just accept 'it is what it is' and being okay that not everyone will understand or "like" my work. First time seeing Fred's photo work, it could give me time to ponder in and understand myself more. It's better to be criticized by an enemy than to be loved by someone who has ulteriors. IMO what makes a great photo is not following "rule of thirds", gurus, and composition techniques. It is being mindful of the environment and just wing it! Have fun and not caring what others think! Vancouver (particularly in VAN EAST) is something just I can't comprehend. Or I wondered having that affinity with city; but it just feels doing street photography in the east of Gastown and Hastings area, and the 'iconic' cross intrigues me...
@developingtank
@developingtank Жыл бұрын
I’m guessing you’re from Van, but I’ve never been. So, I can’t add much to your take on specific locations. I find it cool that he covered a place to such an extent that doesn’t seem to get much coverage. The feeling of hope from Fred’s work is mutual. Clearly, he had to have enjoyed photography and been very passionate about it. At the end of the day, loving photography and going after it should be as enjoyable and not getting spectacular shots all the time is what we should all expect. Thanks for a deep and thoughtful response!

Hi, I have only just stumbled across your channel. This was well presented and researched. I am moving from being solely studio based to doing some street photography. I was curious how you save or catalog your images so you know where to find your favorites when trying to put together a publication?

Good question! My organization is a mess and I only really know where my photos are for my most immediate projects. If I have to go back to create something long term and fully realized it’s going to be hell! 😅 Have you found any solutions to this problem that work well for you? Thanks for checking out the channel!

Great video man, very informative. I really enjoyed the content and the way you put things together. Just a little feedback if I may; your tone when speaking feels a little hard, almost angry at times. Just an observation. Otherwise I dig it, and you got yourself a new sub 🙂

Thanks for the sub and feedback. My tone is abrasive, but that’s intentional. Any other way I’ve tried it will put everyone to sleep.
