When I was young (many years ago) this camera was the Rolls Royce of cameras. The resolution was incredible. Very easy to use. If you get a chance the Nikonos underwater camera is also worth a look. Tough but very clear photography. My dad dropped it from a helicopter in Viet Nam from 500 m . He found it and kept shooting.

Congrats on getting your dream camera. I just got mine a few weeks ago. A Nikon f3. I've wanted one ever since I was in high school in the late 1980's and met a genuine photojournalist who was shooting a local event with one. It was my opinion then and today that it's one of the most beautiful cameras ever made. There was no way I could afford it back then, but recently I found one at a bargain price and made that dream come true.
@davefaulkner63024 жыл бұрын
If you like Nikons and the F line, try the F4 or F5. They are still reasonably priced. The F4 is forward and backward lens compatible and the F5 is as modern as any pro DSLR.

Yeeeees more analogue, he’s becoming one of us. Don’t worry too much about exposure, as long as you’re giving it more light not less negative film is very forgiving to exposures being wrong. Also dang a 2.8f that can’t have been cheap. Haha $3k you even said.
@jimkilroy3364 жыл бұрын
2.8F with the Planar is an amazing camera. The Xenotar model is a bit more rare and performs very well too. I rebuild these along with Hasselblad V series cameras as my primary business. Once you start the addiction of medium format, it is hard too quit. Thanks for the video.

IMO the one and only real medium format photography because of the square image results, this and all its special photogaphic challanges are the essence of this format and what makes it so special and unique, digital or analog is irrelevant, well done 👍😊

When I was a kid in the mid 1950s I helped my father develop his black and white Rolleiflex negatives in his darkroom in our house in the San Francisco area. He died in 2003 but I possess all of the negatives today and what a blast it is to make prints from them via my computer and Photoshop Elements!

I have a 2.8GX and an old T, love them so much. They are even more stealthy for street photography than Leica M because you're not looking at people and most people don't even realise that you have a camera and behave naturally. Frederik, congrats!! I have the 3.5f & 2.8f...they are my favorite cameras by far. The square 120 format is a really fun shape to compose within, and the FEEL of the camera, from how it sits in your hands to the *click* of the shutter is just so satisfying, isn’t it?? @trondsi2 жыл бұрын
Love your enthusiasm! I have two rolleis that were in worse condition than yours (but fraction of the price); a Rollei 2,8 like yours, with no meter and with a few superficial scratches on the lens, and a R. Automat 3.5 where the shutter gets stuck on slow speed. The 2,8 is amazingly sharp, a repair guy here even measured it to be top notch sharpness. When I first get a new camera I shoot a roll of E6 slide film, with a lot of bracketing. That way I learned exactly how it behaves with exposure. I normally use them with Weston batteryless light meters.

A fine machine you have got. I own a Rolleicord Va without lightmeter but you don't really need it these days, there's a bunch of smartphone apps that will do the job. I agree with you, Ilford is more forgiving a film, I usually shoot FP4 125 and reserve the Tri X for 35mm (I shoot a Contax II and a Nikon FM2, both great cameras and gorgeous looking also) snapshots. My Rollei cost me less than 400$, 3,5 aperture, sturdy as a sledgehammer. That's another advantage of the Rollei. Combined with the leatherband it makes an excellent defensive weapon. You can knock off any knave's teeth with a single blow. One gizmo you may like to use is a cable trigger. It makes you much more unconspicuous and it helps a lot with slower speeds.
