Hey everyone! Sorry for some of the shaky clips in this video! In some spots, my tripod was sitting on top of snow instead of the ground, which made it easy for it to shake.

My grandfather was an engineer for the south shore 60’s. It would be awesome walking downtown with mom, and seeing him come heading up the street in his (ride). Thanks for videos. Bringing back memories.

The street running in Michigan City, Indiana was great to see Sam! This was a very good video of action on the South Shore. Thank you for documenting these trains for us.

I guess I subscribed after this video was published. But I found it in recommendations. I grew up in Michigan City in the 50's and early 60's, so I am very fond of the South Shore. When you grow up seeing street running it is no big deal, but I enjoy seeing it now, especially with the plans for double tracking in MC are now in play. I'm old enough to remember when there was a passing siding at the MC station, with spring switches at each end. This was removed in the late 50's, and there is a video of it on KZbin. In elementary school I did a turn as a crossing guard at a CSS&SB grade crossing. One afternoon after school the crossing lights came on and I started to block kids from crossing the tracks. But I ended up with a good sized crowd as the train was unusually slow. It turns out it was the line car. When it got to the crossing it stopped and the motorman waved the kids across. Probably not in the rulebook! It's one of my favorite kid memories.

A UP coal train on the south shore??? That’s rare!!! I’ve never seen a bigger freight train on that route.
@The3751FAN3 жыл бұрын
There’s a big power plant in Michigan city that the UP provide coal to.
@michaelb96293 жыл бұрын
@@The3751FAN Oh okay. I never thought it would be their original route or else it was a detour.

I’m surprised to see a UP leader on the CSS. I thought I read somewhere that NICTD’s ptc was incompatible with foreign power.

They get coal trains from UP for the power plant in Michigan City all the time

@@kyleb06 I know, but I thought that was gonna change and for a while it seemed they were using CSS power to pull coal

The Shore is always a cool short line to see. Could you cover the Shore freight side? I think they run a pretty profitable railroad

I’d like to chase the train from Michigan City to Chicago eventually. That was actually the plan for this video, but the train to Chicago didn’t end up running.

@@SamLovesTrains all the Chicago rail interchanges would be cool and whatever is still going on at the Port of Illinois. Thanks for all the hard work

Those gong Bells need a little TLC and does Union Pacific have trackage rights on the South Shore Line?
@SamLovesTrains3 жыл бұрын
Yes. They run coal trains to NIPSCO in Michigan City.
@caelumvaldovinos53183 жыл бұрын
Those units are "borrowed" from UP. Instead of going through the hassle of changing out locomotives, the South Shore can just request to use the current power and in return, they pay the railroad a little use fee along with providing the crew and any fuel and maintenance that is incurred while the locomotive is on property
