Street Running Trains Cautiously Looking Out For Cars & People. Railroad Switching Local Goes Down & Back. CSX Street Runner Train With DPU Locomotive On The Rear. Model Train Layout Tour At The Train Museum. These trains are in LaGrange, Kentucky on the CSX Short Line LCL.
The first CSX street running train is a local switching train out of Louisville called The Runaround Sue. That's what the local railfans call it. They run north to the train yard in LaGrange to runaround their train and return in the direction that they came from. It's pretty cool seeing the train running long hood forward down the middle of Main Street. We see the locomotive go past a couple of times using the tracks by the museum. I got a great shot of it passing the museums small steam locomotive. This British 0-6-0T engine was built in 1952 and ran in Cadillac, Michigan and was last used in Indiana on a tourist line. A group in the UK wants the Flying Dutchman locomotive back so that it can be restored and will trade something for it.
An auto racks train with a rear DPU ran northbound and the engineer recognised me! That was pretty cool. I went to LaGrange with Scott, 1960gambit. This was Scott's second trip here. He was here with me quite a few years back when my channel was new.
We also went inside the LaGrange Train Museum. Volunteers at the museum ran the trains for us and gave us a couple of shirts. The model train layout is HO scale and has a large helix as you will see. The train layout is pretty large and is in the process of being constructed. I have some older videos of the helix being constructed. The museum has a lot of displays including the steam engine, passenger car, caboose, historic Louisville & Nashville Railway signal and other items. I recommend checking out the museum and leaving a tip in their train tip box. I was last here back before Christmas for Light Up LaGrange. The museum is in a train station that CSX moved a short distance back from the tracks but you can easily get outside in time to film a train.
We were in LaGrange for almost 11 hours and saw 4 through freights and the Runaround Sue local. Best frequency to listen in on is 161.370 and there is a defect detector about 6 miles south. Dispatcher also talks to the crew on 161.310 and 452.9375 might come in handy for the EOT. I was also fortunate enough to get to talk to the town mayor.
Filmed Thursday, May 11, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!
Please thumbs up and watch another JawTooth video to help my channel.

JT its hard to miss you when your shirt is brighter than the safety yellow on the ends of the locomotives. The locals consist a mix of scrap metal, corn oil and corn syrup. In good weather youd sell out a viewing flatcar to see downtown LaGrange from the tracks . 10th autorack has its FRA waiver behind the number and proudly continues to roll on as a SP car. Look up on the left corner of the car and it shows the original build date and when it was rebuilt by Union Pacific at the DeSoto MO carshops which also does work for TTX under contract. Not just for tomorrow but everyday give Mom a hug and tell her you love her

The little kid in me would have been absolutely delighted and fascinated being able to watch a street running train like this. The Imp in me wonders how many people who don't know the rules whine and moan about the train "running the stop sign" at the 4 way stop intersection. Due to ongoing health issues I'm having trouble traveling long distances any more so let me Thank You for bringing us these sights and sounds Brian.

That was the L404 Local (Run Around Sue). Think this was on Thursday? Saw it on the VRF Cam. First time i’ve seen only a Single Engine and That day the most Tanks I’ve ever seen. Usually 3 Engines with 2-3 Scrap cars and 4-7 Tanks. Those Tanks come from down in Buckner at Treehouse Foods (TC). The Scrap Gons are going to a place just East of you off the Siding.

That HO scale L&N GP38-2 reminds me of my late teen years when the CSX merger was new and I would frequently see L&N U23Bs mixed with Family Lines painted, L&N and SCL sub lettered almost new B23-7s and BQ23-7s on locals in south Miami Dade county along with GP38-2s, both black SCL and grey Family Lines units, as well as black U18Bs, and GP39-2s, and once in a while, higher horsepower GP40s, GP40-2s, U36Bs, and the real treat, Chessie System GP40-2s and B30-7s. Also used frequently were the slug sets. Then, the South Miami Dade county S line was fixed up to serve the rock pits in the late 1980s and six axle locomotives were used from then on,

LaGrange KY - what a good place to see street-running trains! I think the folks who live around there get a little too comfortable with the trains :) That truck was close and in a collision, it would lose. The cars wandering down the street while the train is coming are a concern as well, but these are the interesting aspects of street running.

Somebody probably answered this already but 6508 went down as far as it did so able to see the signals in order to proceed down the siding in the small yard

It's been a very long rough haul but I'm finally starting to get straight. I swear that this year is making 2020 look like a speed bump. Cool on the shout out. Missed your videos as I was concentrating on personal things.

I had to reverse / replay 23'48" on top of the spiral, yes there it was, Mount Rushmore, must see it square on next time at the 412 East Main Street La Grange Railroad Museum. Love the early Presidents, you may need to help me with them given I am from New Zealand. I assume they are George Washington, should do a google search, thanks for the inside view of the museum.😊❤📸🚦💚👌👍

At 8" in you asked wh they went so far past the switch. They had to get past the opposing signal so the dispatcher could line them back against their train.

When I see the video the train went through the stop sign without stopping that's what happens when you're talking on your cell phone and driving a train at the same time haha

During the winter the conductor on the RSR train that interchanges here in town recognized me. Railfans don't, when I was filming and photographing the Arcade & Attica a couple weeks ago I overheard the railfans I was near wondering who I was.
