Filming A BNSF Led Train When This Happened! Includes LOUD DPU Locomotives Screaming Across The Railroad Crossing. Also, Trains Passing Right In A Row, Railroad Radio Close Up With Defect Detector Audio. These Norfolk Southern & CSX Trains Are In Glendale, Ohio. This is ex Baltimore And Ohio Railroad territory. Look how old the train station is ( the dated plaque is behind me in the outro ).
The first train is a giant CSX auto racks train that emptied the auto rack yard. This is one of the longest auto racks trains that I have ever seen. Listen to the mid train DPU. Have you ever heard one that loud before? I have heard them that loud on the Rat Hole Line where they come out of the Ohio River valley but I haven't heard them that loud in Glendale. The longer trains need a lot of power. After this train passes we see a close up of one of my radios. This is only the first close up.
The next train is a Norfolk Southern manifest with 2 mid train DPU locomotives. They are working hard also and this might be the longest train of the day. It was my favourite for sure. This train was led by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe locomotive and you can hear the female crew member talking on the radio. She was getting permission to pass a maintenance of way equipment crew. One of her DPU units was a BNSF and the other was a Norfolk Southern. Look what happens right as the end of the train is approaching. A second train pops up all of a sudden on the other track. This train is a CSX local freight running southbound with a square cab locomotive and running long hood forward. That was pretty cool and both trains ended at about the same time. We then take a look at some of the sights in the town and another close look at my radio. Then I put an issue of Rail Pace in the free library with a two dollar bill in it. Lol
Next, we go over by the train station to film a Norfolk Southern intermodal train running northbound on Track 2. This train had 3 NS locomotives and by the time the end of train passed me it was booking! The gates never went back up and all of a sudden a southbound CSX intermodal shows up. I did hear it on the scanner but thought it was still up the tracks a ways. That was cool seeing it cross the crossing and approaching the old train station! It was booking pretty good also. After it passes we see the radio again and hear the audio from the defect detector at mile post 13.5 on the Toledo Sub. After that it's time to watch Chessie and Loki playing. The final scenes are of the DPU units working hard and we see the slide show that came from the video.
I had stopped at Glendale after visiting the doctor only about a half hour away. I had the doctor look at my tick bites. One of them is still giving my some problems but it is getting better. They gave me a script for antibiotics and I need my blood checked. Watch out for the ticks. They are pretty bad right now. I got ticks stuck on me from Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio so they are pretty much everywhere right now.
Filmed Friday, June 9, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Always enjoy your videos. My wife and I live in Connecticut, not too far from the town of Lyme, ground zero for Lyme disease. My wife was mis-diagnosed for 27 years. She had Lyme and 3 other tick-borne illnesses all those years, which wasn't uncommon for a long time. Her body's been wrecked. Proper diagnosis is quite a bit better now. Lyme disease is in many parts of the US. A few simple things everyone can do to lessen the chance of tick bites when outside in high grass and wooded areas: Wear light colored clothes. Long sleeve shirts. Long pants. No shorts. Tuck your pant cuffs into your socks. Looks a bit goofy but it prevents ticks from crawling up your leg under your pants. Use DEET on your shoes and pant cuffs as recommended on the bottle. Always do a tick check from head to toe when you get home. If you have someone who can check out places you can't see, have that person check you out. Learn how to properly remove a tick. The CDC has good info on that. If you see a bullseye rash anywhere on your body, get to the doctor promptly. We can still enjoy the outdoors. We just need to take a few precautions. Thanks again for the great videos!

My dad was a railroad man all his life. I counted cars too and came up with 147. I always count cars when I'm waiting at a crossing; reminder of when I was a kid and dad took us to see the trains. Big one that's for sure. Thanks for sharing.

The autorack train had one lead locomotive, 73 autorack cars, one DPU locomotive, followed by 73 more autorack cars. I may have double-counted one car while camera was panning. That would be a train of just about 4 miles in length (145' x 146 cars.) If all were loaded with pickup trucks, 1460 trucks at $60k to $90k each MSRP - certainly over $100 million. Were they all empties? Seems like loaded cars would need a little more power, but vehicles are fluffy compared to stone, grain, cement powder, or even liquids.

I had Lyme's disease nearly 20 years ago. It was pretty new at the time, and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. I told them I thought it was Lyme's, and specifically asked them to test for it. I was right, and it cleared-up with a regimen of antibiotics. Our neighbor wasn't so lucky. She was treated for all kinds of stuff for three years before they figured out what it was, and by then it had caused permanent damage. She is mostly in a wheel chair now, or uses a cane. I don't know why doctors don't test for Lyme's right away - especially if you live in a rural area!

Wow, that stuff is worse than I thought. We just started getting the deer ticks here about twenty years ago. The dog ticks are common. Those deer ticks are so small that they are hard to see and hard to remove.

Glad you went to the doctor. I was one of the folks who mentioned Lyme disease in the last video. That $hit is no joke. Can paralyze or even kill you. I mow a lot of lawns. Found a tick on me once. Got it off before it could bite me or dig in. I always shower real good and use a wash cloth all over after every day of mowing. I want to live a long, enjoyable life and I plan to retire in five years, so it's important to stay healthy and have regular doctor visits.

If there is such a thing, the downtown Glendale no horn quad crossing is a good looking crossing. The gates and lights structures are well painted and uniform, the road surface is fairly good with kurbing on either side, the gravel on either side is clear and uniform and the buildings on the corners, the station, and the surrounding area is all well maintained. The whole setup is easy on the eye. That would be a good idea for a video for someone. Showing well presented or beautiful rail crossings.

I'm still amazed/shocked/concerned at the lack of any sort of fencing around US rail right of ways. Here in Australia and many other places in the word it's just not so.

Hey JT awesome video. Love that Glendale it sure is a pretty town. That black squirrel with the Hawaiian shirt looked like it was in honour of you JT. Anywho take care, those ticks can be real nasty.

Great Video JT. Be careful with those Ticks. We have many here in Upstate New York Duanesburg Area. I have had 3 on me this year. Now I have Lyme Diease. Being treated for it but to tell you the Truth its not fun. I do hope your tests come back Negative. Ron

Glad your doc is on the case. It's amazing how many md's and people in general downplay tick bites. Lyme Disesse is a real thing.

My cat scratched my left index finger, two very small scratches about ¼" long and pretty shallow. In two or three days it was raging with infection. I went to the ER and went straight to emergency surgery. I meet a hand surgeon, he informs me he's already removed three fingers this year to this infection. I was in the hospital for 11 days and I was getting morphine every 4 hours whether I wanted it or not. I was on 3 antibiotics nonstop for 11 days. One incision about 1" at the tip on the inside, very sensitive and then a boomerang shaped cut from the first knuckle of the finger down across to the main knuckle at my palm and then down across my palm to the first lines going across the palm. The fear was MRSA, I contracted it from his hind leg claws, the ones he cover's his shit with. Two months of physical therapy and my finger will never be the same. CLEAN ALL ANIMAL INDUCED ANYTHING REALLY REALLY GOOD!

27:52 is an example of to use extra caution around crossings with multiple tracks. I saw a few people crossing the tracks right after the first intermodal train crossed the road, right before the second one came around the curve.

And that particular grade crossing has gates on all sides. It just missed chopping that SUV crossing from right to left @27:33. Had they stopped in front of that second gate it could have been tragic. I understand the no horn zone and gates across all lanes. But this could have unintended consequences.

I live right next to the tracks that run between Scranton and Carbondale and see freight run 6 days a week pulled by vintage engines and a bunch of steam engines out of Steamtown pulling old passenger cars almost every week. I never film them but if you want me to send you video of them, let me know.

Come to Europe where almost no freight train is using its horn at crossings. Or bell for that matter. Don’t know about the rest of the world, but I think it’s an American thing.

Use something like Google Earth to look at Kirkwood, Missouri. U.S. Hwy 67 crossing. It has a no train horn on a curve that inhibits visual line of sight until about 35 yards.
