When you finally know how to speak it properly people will tend to look at you differently. It seemed like you're joking and you're the one speaking it incorrectly. I told my friend how to pronounce Lanvin but she was like, "you're weird"... But, Thank You very much! It's so nice to hear the brands being spoken by native of France. 3:32 I found it to be rather interesting when you mentioned people saying YSL instead of the Yves Saint Laurent. There is a brilliant italian philosopher called Giorgio Agamben who wrote a great essay, 'Profanations', where he writes exactly something about the monogram (YSL), as a name that cannot be spoken, there are only letters, it is the secret name, given in the beginning, in the Garden of Eden.

Terre D'Hermes is my favourite perfume (for men), but although you said 'it's an easy one', I actually heard this mis-pronounced a lot. I heard 'Her-Meez' before, which would sound very funny to French people I guess. The 'Vetemens' bit was funny. I know it's not a fashion brand, but how do I say 'Ladurée'? The two 'ee's look confusing; and I don't think I ever heard anyone ever actually say it before. Thanks!

Tommy Hilfiger (not "Ilfi-guerre" as they say in France), but also a beer from my country: Heineken. Or when French people pronounce artist's names, like: Michael Jackson ("Mika-el Jacques-son"). I'm not French but I'm a native French speaker in a French environment and I have some French family. French isn't limited to France, France isn't limited to Paris. www.larousse.fr/dictionnaires/francais/magasin/48516?q=magasin#48425 If you look at the larousse online, magasin, is still [magazɛ̃] whereas words like vin are indeed closer to [vœ̃] but not exactly.

Because that's how the greek god Hermès is pronounced in French. Proper pronunciation of old latin or greek words that are still perceived to be somewhat latin or greek rather than just a French word that originated from Latin or Greek follow their own rules. Scientists have not always agreed on what the proper pronunciation for them is and, as a result, the pronunciation thought at school for those words has varied somewhat. For instance, we have the French "Musée" pronounced the usual french way but in "muséum" (meaning a natural sciences museum) the second "u" is pronounced "o" which is not something you would have in a "real normal" French word.
