Street Machine Carnage is all about having fun with cars. Sometimes it's serious performance, sometimes it's crazy fun, but it always interesting and done on a budget.

His been looking a bit shit for some time now. Not a great deal of pride shown considering this is the face of Street Machine. Clean the workshop and the stinky parts washer, clean yourself up a bit, maybe consider a change of pants this year. Most of the carnage is preventable with proper planning and preparation 🤞

Bit of a tip for you. When trying to undo a bolt that has been Loctited on , you must first heat the bolt up a bit as this will cause the Loctite to let go. This will save you a lot of grief. Take care, loving the build.

If you can add some heat to anything with Loctite it sometimes helps to release it, it'd have to be a pretty small flame for those counter sunk screws though.

Watched the Loctite video last week, learned I've been using red when I should have been using blue, and if you need to break out a bolt locked in with red, heat it up first. Good luck!

I feel your pain Scotty - I have found left twist drills (not a wind up!) are brilliant at getting out stuck bolts - at worst they drill the head out but usually they grab and thread the bolt out - and as they heat up as they drill it helps with bolts with loctite on too.

The worst part was watching you learn about oil pump gear covers the same way I did-the hard way. My L67 powered VS has been parked up for over 5 years but the memories are still raw. I worked out a little hack you might find useful. I now use an impact torx bit and one of those drivers that you have to hammer. Works a charm. I’ve also heard that using two timing cover gaskets can give you enough clearance without the need for a thinner gear cover.

Small setbacks Scotty but in the end it'll be for big gains. No one likes cleaning engines & engine parts, but at least you film it, which many KZbinrs don't. When you have a limited budget, it's better trying to use the old parts by spending the time cleaning them as best as you can. Every person will tell you that they want to take pick axes through everything when there's setbacks. Keep going at it Scotty & it'll work out the way you want it in the end.

Whenever I have a stripped out torx or phippips screw, I normally weld a washer to it first, then a nut, the washer protects the surrounding parts and the heat of welding loosens the corossion or thread lock .

I’ve read some comments so sorry if someone has already said, use a punch or drift the same size as the head of the bolt and give it a smack with a hammer - it will shock the bolt and you will be able to undo, if not then heat, but most times a shock will do the trick
@bobroberts2371
@bobroberts2371 6 күн бұрын
Stuck / deformed bolts. Strike the bolt using a flat nose punch. This will imprint the bolt into the metal reducing tension. It will also slightly reform the head to allow some grip with the tool. Also. if the stuck bolt is the last one holding a part on, sometimes the part can be turned to help loosen the bolt.
@bobroberts2371
@bobroberts2371 6 күн бұрын
Also. Heat releases locktite The typical tapered easy out just tends to expand the bolt locking it tighter. The best extractor is made by Ridgid. it is a straight spline with an internal splined drive " nut " that allows for applying torque in both directions. Also, use a T handle driver as this applied pure torque not a partial side load that further locks the bolt into place.

As someone who works on ALOT of harleys everyday with them torx heads. use a little heat. 60-80 degrees so everything expands and any lock tight softens. Then most importantly a small impact driver or 12v rattle gun on low setting and hold it dead strait, pushing dead strait like your drilling a hole. As soon as people start wrenching on them on slight angle the heads get fucked up and small torx bits break

If you have the luxury of a gas torch, a little heat on the locktite will soften it up, and a little heat will often help removing bolts. You can buy a small cheap device from a hardware store that is specifically made to centre your drill bit when drilling holes for house door hinges , if the bolt has broken slightly bellow the surface then the tool make it easier to centre your drill bit when drilling it out for an easy out .
