It's good to see people build a their own stuff. So many people just pay to have it done by someone else now. Investing sweat equity in something make you appreciate it so much more. No to mention the sense of accomplishment. And it doesn't matter how much you spend or how quick it is as long as you're having fun.

When you spray that brake cleaner on your hands I was told by the Instructors at the GM training center that was called topical penetration, the cleaner is soaking in your body and will eventually get in your blood stream and could mess up your Kidneys, they had a story about some old mechanic who developed kidney problems and turned out it was the brake cleaner he would clean his hands with. I did not see it with my own eyes, but they (GM training center instructors) sure made a point to let us know not to do that. Im sure thousands of mechanics do that every day, I just wanted to pass what I heard on in case it was true. Have fun with the new project.
@kevincosta92284 жыл бұрын
I'm glad somebody brought this up. We can absorb chemicals through our skin, and brake cleaner is pretty nasty stuff. That's why nitrile gloves are a good idea and spraying the stuff directly on your skin is a bad idea. Take the extra couple seconds and use hand cleaner.
@reallybadaim1184 жыл бұрын
@@kevincosta9228 Yep even lawn chemicals. Skin is absorbing what it contacts. Wear gloves.
@yeetskeetledeet81844 жыл бұрын
It’s absolutely true, brake clean is made from acetone and methanol. Acetone isn’t so much a problem, but methanol sitting on your hands will soak through your skin. Nasty stuff there’s stories of people making moonshine that has trace amounts of it; and their brains deteriorate after drinking.

@Slide Ways Haha awesome story. I wish I'd grown up in a different time. The cool kid at my school had a BMW.. My 85 was a stock but cherry 8'bed, 305 4 speed, the 79 was a sb, had a 350 with small cam with th400 and a wooden flatbed with headboard I built in shop class, spun 35s like nothing. That was a fun truck.

Good on yas for guiding Molly through her first of many tear downs for HER car, BUT seriously Billy and Dad,, you guys are spoiling her with those electric and air impact tools :-) She needs to know just how cool it is to have them instead of the old grunt 'n pull wrenches. Watching her spin those OLD/RUSTED in place exhaust manifold bolts off with ease reminds me of ohh so many times I either rounded the heads off cause I hadda beat on the damn wrench (copious WD or BREAK LOOSE) or snapped them off and had to EZ out the remaining bolt from the head.

Great video guys, thank you! It's awesome to see a young lady interested in cars and mechanics actually working on her own car! Molly, maybe you could also start a "fund" or a "patreon" on your channel to help build your engine and car? I bet lots of people would love to help you. P.S. Please get some good "rubber" gloves. The chemicals, fuels, oils, etc., are really hard on your hands/skin. I worked as a mechanic for many years and I didn't protect my hands very often. Now whenever I get any carb/brake cleaner, or diesel, or gasoline on them, they go instantly numb, which the doctor tells me is a sign that they have been oversaturated with chemicals and/or diesel fuel to the point that they just can't take any more. It's a miracle that I never got any blood poisoning from the chemicals and fuel.
