Hi Billy. I'm a burn survivor. I had 40 % of my body burned with second - and third-degree burns. I went through 30 plus operations in 6 years. My plastic surgeon was Peter Neligan, and he is in Seattle now but was in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I can understand everything you are going through. It will get better, but you have a rough road in the beginning. The biggest thing is to keep up with moisturizer. I use Galaxo Base cream. It's the best for burns. It's not greasy once it absorbs in your skin. You are very lucky. All the best.

Billy please don't beat yourself up. We all make mistakes. I made the mistake of welding on a fuel tank 13 years ago and didn't have my helmet on because I was just tack welding a fuel shutoff value in and it blew up on me. I even washed it out with Tide and hot water. But I ended up losing my eye sight. I was given less than a 5% chance of seeing again but I was lucky and regained my sight a year and half later. But man when it happened my son was 7 years old and my 2 daughters were 9 and 10 at the time. But man I just wanted to die because I couldn't play catch with my son and teach him how to play ball or all the things you look forward to do with your children. But they are what kept me going. And man it shows how proud you are being a dad. So please always take every safety precaution you can and be safe. At the end of the day you need to go home to your family. God bless you and the family.

At the radiator shop I work at we always keep argon or CO2 purging inside gas tanks while welding. We still clean them out with dawn and water and it does a pretty good job, but you know.. it's better to be safe than sorry.

Having dealt with tank repair and modification, my procedure was to use the exhaust side of my shop vac to purge and dry the tank for 20 minutes before doing anything else. It always served me well. Thought I'd pass it along. I built a 4wd 85 S10 blazer with a 283 back before you could buy a kit-in-a-box. Did it with all off the shelf GM parts. It wasn't quite as strong as what you have built, but was a blast to drive. Really enjoy your channel and stay safe.

GOD is great all the time! Moments like this help humble people and recognize how blessed you are. I'm an elevator mechanic and I've had some close calls. Using an oxy/acetylene torch cutting out a hydraulic cylinder, I had hydraulic fluid ignite between two sections of casing. The fireball went right in front of my face, up the hoistway, catching dust bunnies and spider webs on fire. Working in confined spaces has it's hazards already. Add fire and it'll make even a seasoned journeyman's butt pucker. Get well soon, Billy 🙏💪🏻🇺🇸

I am really sorry to hear about your mishap Billy. I am an old 64 geezer, and when we had to fix a leak on a steel tank; meaning welding on the tank, we used to run a large vacuum size hose from an exhaust pipe from a running car into the inlet and let it "Air Dry" out any remaining gases/ fumes after we emptied the tank. We never used water. Then let it sit over night before welding. But with new "Plastic Tanks' I'd do the same procedure. But try blowing out the fumes with a leaf blower over the inlet with all outlets open and let sit for a day in the sun to dry out. Again, so sorry to hear of your mishap. Just my own words of caution and tick this in your future memory to not let this happen again. Love watching all the channels your family has. :) Keep Strong and heal up Young Gun!!!!!!!!!!! :) We know your family is there for you, but your fans are there for you too. Love to ya'll

Prayers and God’s grace have certainly been plentiful for you, your wife, your son and your family. My wife and I have followed SRC going way back, and the Old Man’s Garage since you both began your independent directions, and then threaded back together. I recall faith being very much in the forefront during the early days, and not to imply that it was anything other than it was, during this most recent years of growth and success. However I kept hearing an awakening in your voice and reflections, while at the hospital, and in the shop. You have indeed been given the gift of not only more time and wholeness of body, but you have a tremendous following of so many people, from so many walks of life, and some are very young and impressionable. Your gift has now taken on a whole new dimension, and I am absolutely delighted to be witnessing this opportunity that has been gifted to you. Pray for the wisdom to spread good things as you step into wellness and continued success and growth. Your son will be a wonderful recipient of a loving and caring Dad, such as you have had all along. Not just an awesome earthly father, but a bigger glimpse of your Heavenly Father. Adversity Builds Character. ABC. You already had a wonderful character. It is just being tuned up a bit stronger! Thanks for letting us ride with you and your family all these years!

I accidentally lit it with my soldering torch a while later, and without thinking I tried to blow out the flame... it flared up and burnt my face similar to yours, removing eyebrows, eyelashes, and some hair 😂. The eyelashes were the most uncomfortable, for me. You don't realize how important those little things are, how much they do blocking the sun , wind, and dust.. It took a few weeks for my skin to feel normal and several months for eyebrows and eyelashes to grow back. The hair was the easiest part, so don't worry too much about your looks. It'll all grow back eventually.

One day when your young family looks back and ponders what you have done for the racing community and youngsters coming in and up with this form Of racing. This takes talent from the entire team. You keep It real And keep everyone accountable. This at such a young age is rare today. You made it!!!! Don’t listen to the hey I would have done this I would have done that. Actually tho when you get 2nd degree thru full thickness burns, the pain isn’t that bad till you get your daily scrubs cause the nerve endings have been damaged and are not sending pain signals to the brain as they typically would. It’s the bodies defensive way of protecting itself from the immense pain a burn can cause. My wife has been a Burn Nurse at several of our countries best burn units and the things she has seen and done will churn the stomachs of most of us here. It takes a special individual to be in the burn field!!

Hey great to see a recovery that's going well. Just a little tip for you if you have to do any welding or cutting drilling on a fuel tank here is a way to get rid of fumes , get a hose from a diseal truck exhaust going Into the the fuel tank run the for a hr and that will get rid of the fumes so it want blow up

My cousin passed away from a explosion at a propane station 😢 while he was refilling a propane tank. Everytime I see a tank it brings back memories of his passing. Always has me on the edge. Hope you recover quickly 🙏 god bless you.
