I have to say those houses built for factory workers between 1890 and 1920 can take a licking and keep on ticking. They may not ever have been much to look at, but those houses can take some serious abuse and neglect. Pretty impressive how much from that period is even still standing.

People used to give a shit, have pride in their work, their nation, and their fellow man. Built each home like they were making it for a family member with love and respect. All that shit’s gone now you get plywood particle board homes made as cheap as possible and sold for as much as possible.

@@teresaburckhardt3441 I meannnnnn, crime rate is pretty damn high here but it doesn't look half as bad as north Philly, not near as many abandoned/torn down houses. My uncle recently had to move out of Reading because some gang was stalking him and his family around, presumably because he had been threatened by them before and he refused to back down, so they would camp outside his house all day and all night just staring at him. If he left, they would stand on his porch. I'm pretty sure he told me he had a few shootouts with some gangs trying to steal his dirt bikes as well. But yeah all in all Reading is pretty messed up, was voted poorest city in the nation ~10 years ago and is still up there for sure.

Philadelphia is definitely the most British-looking city in America. Much more so than New York or even Boston. The Philadelphia row house is absolutely modeled on the Victorian terrace style. Unfortunately all the decorative woodwork so common on the houses and businesses requires frequent maintenance and so has either been covered up or left to rot, giving the city its distinctly putrid patina.

There wasn't any graffiti; and the trash lying around was minimal. The people; Civil. It IS a far cry from that now. I avoid going into Philly at all costs.

I used to work down there in the Juniata section with a counseling Agency for the children. since then old couples have been murdered in their antique shops and people have been stabbed and shot and been giving out drugs. I'm sick of the drug epidemic ask ukrainians if they'd like one more day of life instead of sitting there getting high on Fentanyl patches and opioids. we're all as responsible as the other cities like Detroit and sitting there in this lazy atmosphere of drugs and getting fatter and lazier we need to get it together . better to lay around and tattoo yourself and stick a needle in your arm there have been multiple multiple murders in Philadelphia at with young children and women murdered in the streets. someone didn't want their child or decided they would try some domestic abuse by shooting someone right in the face or the stomach amazingly crude and disgusting I'm tired of hiding and pretending this isn't happening time to take action and to make sure that our streets are safe

a lot of this is illegal dumping. not necessarily the people in that community throwing their trash outside their house. don't get me twisted, there's a definite littering problem in the city, but there is a huge issue with illegal dumping. nearly impossible for people to get the city to come out and remove once it occurs in the dead of night.

Put it this way: outside the main streets the others are in severe dis-repair as far as the actual roads go as too much of the Stat's budget is being used on useless programs rather than infrastructure....as for how trashy they look basically any of the large cities/towns likely also have streets that look this bad in regards to how much trash is lying around (I say likely as I generally only used the trains to pass through Philly to work and never really bothered going to the interior PA but this is generally an issue most larger cities will have especially if they're run kinda similarly to Philly...especially given PA Dems are a particularly kinda dumb...maybe not as bad as CA Dems but still pretty bad as they let morons like Wolf and Kenny in)...even when you get to the suburbs of Philly where the houses and all look a bit better there's still trash littering the street (maybe not in the mounds seen in this video though) in specific suburbs (various areas in NE city come to mind whenever I pass through there such as Cottman Street when you get to around Roosevelt Bvd and pass around Northeast HS).
