Not to mention removing an aerodynamic device that produces significant downforce (950 lbs when set to the more aggressive of two positions on a ZR1 equipped with the ZTK track pkg) and could result in adverse handling at high speed. That is a heavy Mustang. There are a lot of mustangs that would smoke him. He picks and chooses what to race usually whichmakes great content. This gt500 really don’t have much into it. Stock sealed engine some clutches e85 factory ported blower tune and other basic stuff. People are running this kind of power and low 9s with a lot more factory stuff on. It’s only a yr and a half into r&d for the gt500. They will be way faster than expected for a bug heavy track car. Pbd is his tuner and they are running 9.03 on a 90 degree day with still the factory sealed engine factory clutches in the trans and factoryfuel system. Easily 8s coming in better temps. They have spent a year playing with there’s to get it right. For a car that heavy and that much bigger cutting trying to cut through the air. It’s crazy we will be seeing these running mid 8s by summer but even crazier all the mustangs running 7s in the 1/4 mile with pretty basic setups some even stock sealed motors. We can call this the end of the golden days as we leave another muscle car ara. C8 yes next variants will be fast but they will also costs 200-400k and won’t have tuning especially since they have the electric corvette coming soon. Camaro is gone and with SRT dismantled I’m sure the big supercharged stuff will be gone and they will go more euro kinda like they set up the Alfa Romeo or all EV.

@@truckthings4302 the gt500 has less into it and is shaped like a brick and weighs 4000lbs. Remember in the video how mile said he was restricted at the top end due to the aero the Mclaren had. Think about the shape of the gt500 and the corvette. One is gonna need more power. Plus one comes with a back seat. There isn’t much to the gt500 besides basic upgrades. Stock sealed motor. No heads cams. They are capable running 8s on stock fuel systems stock trans stock sealed engine and factory ported blower. Gotta give credit where credit is due. This is only a year-year and a half into tuning and r&d for the gt500. They will be going faster. This is just the beginning. The 150-200hp extra would easily be needed to make up for the weight and shape. Saying well it has to much hp is like saying every guy with whether it be a 2700lbs Honda and a 3700 Chevy both should be running the same hp or it’s not fair.

Good point, Mike. The ~950 lbs of downforce generated by the ZR1 rear wing (ZTK option) is great for lateral grip in corners, at speed. However, the resulting downforce results in what is known as induced drag* which adversely effects top speed. *It also occurs when generating lift.
