Utterly fascinating, and if your goal is to encourage fencesitters like myself to buy the rules...mission accomplished!

Any chance of more battle reports? Ones with Polybian Roman, Macedonian, Carthaginian, Persian and even step horse armies in action?
@markbackhouse33722 жыл бұрын
The main rules are slightly later than those armies… HOWEVER I’m working on a supplement that cover those armies. We’ve just filmed a couple more battles one is already released.

At 9:48, Mark rolls a "1" for his attack -- attacker repulsed. He then cancels that roll by spending a command point BUT...if he hadn't re-rolled would Rich still have had to roll a defense die against it, potentially canceling a very good result for himself? (In other words -- is the rolling of a defence die a "may" or "must"?)
@markbackhouse33722 жыл бұрын
It’s a must roll.

Really like the looks of the rules and my paper armies are on the way. Please could I ask if there is a download for the Setback and Disaster cards as I would prefer not to cut them out of the book? Thanks.

Cool. Not being too familiar with the period, did Julius Caesar ever lead any attacks in person?
@markbackhouse33722 жыл бұрын
Not really. He fought in the ranks at the River Sabis in 57BC when things were desperate! Better imagining him attached to a unit a few ranks behind the front lines in a unit.

I'm still a bit baffled by the combat resolution, but this is still great fun to watch.

Sorry, we aren’t going to explain every nuance. Suffice to say it’s fairly fast as you can see. Once you get the rules hopefully it’ll make more sense!

Was there any reason that the cav and skirmishes didn’t try and follow up the Roman cav when they pushed them back up the hill at 21 minutes in?
@markbackhouse33722 жыл бұрын
Yes… I forgot to do it. Mea culpa! It would have been really useful too.

.....and not "half" bad either. 😉 Very exciting actually! QUESTION (sorry I keep having these): What was the result that caused Mark to suffer his subsequent Reverse of Fortune, and meaning he couldn't continue his turn and activate/fight further - over in the center? (something I just missed in that flanking cavalry exchange?)
@markbackhouse33722 жыл бұрын
Was it the failed charge activation? It meant I didn’t reach the Romans and caused a reversal of fortune?

Very late to the Lardie Party on S&H; looks fabulous and the rules as read are clean and dynamic, such is what I'm looking for in a strategic game. However, I don't understand why an 'exact' value dice response for defense is needed? If the attacker roles 3D6 and chooses one of them, what's the difference if he chooses one of his higher dice or his lower dice if then the defender roles a 1D6 and must exactly match? It's still a one-in-six chance of success so who cares if the attacker chose a 1 or a 6? I'm probably missing something. Other than that, keep it up, Lardies!!
@toofatlardies Жыл бұрын
Matching the dice is not the issue. What the attacker rolls determines the outcome of the combat. A low result favours the defender, a high result favours the attacker. If the attacker rolls three dice and then chooses the result they wish to use, their chance of getting an advantageous outcome is greatly enhanced.

No. It’s because they can be heroes. Just for one day.

Ive got to be honest this seems a bit random to me, youve set up a lot of great plays and none have paid off, i would feel really disappointed with that. Not many dice being rolled either at any point which i feel adds to the randomness. Looks amazing but gonna watch a few more to see if ive been sold on it yet.
@markbackhouse33722 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, I’d suggest giving it a play through and seeing if it’s for you.
