Erin's mom is so brave for speaking her truth about Erin's disability. Telling the truth and admitting one's feelings can be incredibly difficult. I applaud her.

I think that some are forgetting that these parents aren’t there for judgement, they came for help. And Erin’s mom is being honest in order to get the help her family needs. Now are some of her word choices horrendous? Of course BUT she is in a therapy session where she SHOULD be able to express exactly how she is feeling in order to help her family. In a therapy session politically correct phrases and no offensive words for others are usually completely private. And can we try to keep in mind that this was 15 years ago! Bridgett YOU are doing great. Ignore the haters and just keep loving your kids. As for the “bottom feeders” comment I honestly believe she was referring to the people who might treat Erin badly, who might take advantage of her. I think several people need to take a step back and watch again and maybe shake off their judgment of a situation that they do not live with. My son is autistic and he is constantly teased, people try to push him around, he’s excluded because the other kids say that he’s “too weird” or “so different “. I understand her fear for her daughter. I do my best to help my son know and see and feel proud of himself, that there’s nothing wrong with him, his brain just works differently. But it’s the outside world that we fear. And sadly, whether you like to hear it or not it could be harder for Erin because you can see that she is a bit different. What we CAN do is teach kids-and worse adults like these judgey people, that different is GOOD.

Well said... I think parents have to very brave and desirous of change to undertake such a venture. I give them a lot of credit. It cannot be easy to do this in full view of tv cameras, no less...

I agree and fear for her daughter goes beyond when Erin is a teenager or an adult, it goes to after Brigettes death. I know as a mother yet I can never say I know what’s it’s actual like to walk in my son’s shoes. (He has CP).

Erin's mom strikes me as someone who had a fairly easy life for a long time- someone who succeeded at everything she tried and never ran into a problem or a situation that she couldn't defeat, something she just had to learn to deal with. A variation of Dr. Byron's talking about overprotected children perhaps.

Where I live, people with Downs are not judged at all. I'm a care giver and have spent years working with them. Everywhere we go, they are treated like gold, especially in school. Erin's Mum is the only one judging her. Imagine calling people with intellecual differences "bottom feeders!!"
@RicheeBe Жыл бұрын
She said when she starts school we will have to deal with the “ bottom feeders “ Meaning the kids who will and we know they will ( even though i will say Gen z did so much better than previous generations with the whole being bullies ans being mean to different i love that for them ) However there is always that one . But she’s Concerned about her child being hurt . she’s not calling her kid a bottom feeder and yes that’s actually to generous for anyone who willingly would make front of down syndrome.

I’m not convinced control-freak, perfectionist Bridget is concerned for Erin having DS and how people will treat her later on in life and what she’ll have to go through. I think Bridget, herself, can’t get over it! Everything isn’t perfect anymore and she can’t handle it but it’s out of her control!

This reminds me of my mom . That would be another reason added to the list of why you’re not ready for boys . lol look at ya can’t even rub a bunny but u wanna boyfriend 😂😂😂

She’s expressing some very difficult feelings in a safe environment, with a trained professional in a closed setting where her child can’t hear her. Parents who have a child with disabilities are often not given the space to acknowledge those feelings, they get told they are horrible for just HAVING a feeling. Many times, acknowledging those feelings and being allowed to process them gives parents the opportunity to work THROUGH them. It can be very important to grieve, if you will, a loss of the ideal so they can truly celebrate and enjoy the reality. It’s easy to say we wouldn’t feel that way ever but we don’t know unless or until we go through it.

Well to look at the families in tonight's episode in a very simple light Miss Keira we learn acts out so dramatically because she wants/needs the attention that follows when her and mom kiss and make up. The little girl, Emma i think, acts out so hysterically in the presence of bunnies because she's mollycoddled so much by mom and dad that she's perhaps been taught there is something to be frightened of. Her reaction when with Tanya petting bunnies was minimal. Moments later with mommy she was distraught and pleading to be taken from bunnies presence. I still thinks she's mostly playing up for all the attention and pacifying that follows. Thats when she gets her cuddles. Usually screaming and making twisty face while dry eyed is a good indication she's being willful.
