My relationship with exercise vastly improved when I completely disconnected it from weight loss. Now I exercise for fun and it's a habit then if I want do lose weight I do dedicated caloric restriction for a period.

I've been lying to myself, allowing myself to eat more than I need because I'm running - I've used it as an excuse! Thanks for the good advice 👏

I am finding that since I started taking my Zone 2/Heart Rate training more seriously the weight has dropped of far quicker. I’m able to run for much much longer. I’m obviously in a caloric deficit too

It is a tricky balance. When I ran my first half marathon last year, I had dropped too much weight and I didn’t perform well. Now, a full marathon completed last fall under guidance, I am 11 pounds heavier. I am doing heavy -ish lifting as strength training. Running performance improved! Inches lost, weight gained. I better not look at the scale. (54 female).

I love the tips! Unfortunately, I have very little motivation/discipline with my diet. I LOVE food, and scoff at that saying "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". Boy do I disagree! 😆 I have more motivation/ discipline with exercise, so I focus on that, try to cut down on the junk food, and find that eventually my running leads to better diet choices because I want to be a better athlete. Diet change for athletic performance is a whole lot more motivating for me than dieting for weight loss. Off I go to do a strength workout, thanks for the nudge!

The key 🔑 to good weight loss is to be consistent in your exercise

Yeah about muscle burning more calories than fat. Bigger people move less. I don't want to get bigger. I want to get smaller. When I list I build crazy muscle mass. I want to break down my muscle.

Your first and last points contradict each other. You say you can't lose weight when training for a race because you won't recover and improve, yet you think you can build muscle by going to the gym on a calorie deficit? The truth is you can make progress on a small calorie deficit and most people do lose weight in their race prep. It's possible build some muscle while losing weight but it is much easier during maintenance or when gaining weight. I guess it is a matter of degrees.

Most runners have miniscule amount of muscle so they can make great gains in a deficit. Endurance training consumes way more energy and makes you way more hungry

How to take any joy out of life! xD You really don't have to be miserable to lose weight. (I guess some people do but it's not a requirement)

@@MyFatAdaptedLife I would personally add remove all plants to your excellent list, but I know that’s not for everyone! 😂 I was amused by the other comment above… I am FAR from miserable having removed all those things and losing 70lbs and enjoying running every day. I am much MUCH happier. Each to his/her own. Thank God we are all different!

@@Alecmcq We're like-minded. I haven't touched a carb or a plant in years & have lost 85 lbs. I'm completely fat-adapted and run 70+ miles a week on ketones, water & electrolytes. I've run two marathons since fat-adaptation. BTW I'm 60 y.o.

I don't want to bulk and then try to run. I bulk easy. I want to be thin.

I like this channel a lot but this advice is just conventional wisdom BS. You can lose weight while training for a race. Need to look at fat oxidation research by Volek and Phinney. Probably should just stay with strength training vids
