I have extreme injuries to my feet with multiple surgeries resulting in numbness, nerve damage, and extremely limited mobility. Switching to barefoot shoes and doing all the things mentioned in this video over the past few years have changed my life. One thing he forgot to mention is that it HURTS. Building calluses while fundamentally changing the way your feet move is so painful, but in the end it saves you more pain than it causes. Thanks for this video.

Yeah it's important to take easy and expect some pain or discomfort. A lot of people immediately switch back because it didn't feel good because of poor expectations. It's like no one goes to the gym and complains about sore muscles because that's expected

Yeah I am almost 2.5 years in and still deal with a TON of pain. I have made a lot of progress finally mainly over this last year but man the pressures and stiffness on the bottom of my foot (plantar muscles/tendons) is still quite a bit as I continue to get things to lengthen out and strengthen after 12+ years of narrow nikes as my daily footwear.

The boulder boot has been my main footwear for 2 years - phenomenal shoe. I also have boulder boot summit for outdoor activities, bad weather, etc. I even bought my mom a pair of the laguna slip-ons and those are her go-to everyday shoe now. I've been wearing barefoot shoes exclusively for 4 years - I used to have pain in my feet but that went away after I switched. It definitely took some adjusting though - you have to learn to walk/run differently and always make contact w/the ball of your foot (no heel striking). I feel like that adjustment makes you more agile and balanced (as well as protecting from banging your joints) so it's a win/win.
@c43pmurderson258 күн бұрын
I've had Xero, Lems, and Vivobarefoot. Vivobarefoot is my favorite of these, as they have put up with the most abuse as trail shoes and everyday shoes, including working both at stages and outdoors on set for tweleve to sixteen hours. To preserve shoes I recommend getting cedar boxing glove deodorizer inserts. They absorb moisture and kill bacteria.

Some in the comments are clearly missing the point- Trevor’s not saying barefoot shoes don’t contribute, but that they’re PART of the equation. The title of the video insinuates that they are not helpful. It's attention grabbing on purpose. So, it's understandable why some would feel that way.
@notjustforme7 күн бұрын
Those people are replying to the ridiculous title and not the video. And rightly so. Clickbait bullshit like this intentionally creates conflicting titles and content. Most people get interested in some way. Rational people just skip it as being inconsistent and guaranteed to be wrong. If the title can't be correct, the video is garbage as well. Those are the people who dislike clickbait. It ruins the experience and makes it impossible to find relevant content. Just a massively growing blocklist. Pure cancer. It's hilarious, a channel about improving oneself that is using bully- and jock moves to succeed. And the worst thing is, it's out of greed. The channels start doing it way AFTER they grow to size. They grew politely and correctly up to 50k or whatever, and then the money creeps up, and suddenly it's about clicks and views, and little else. Just create quality content and hold up good standards. Don't use low-brow brute-force marketing bullshit.

I grew up in the Caribbean wearing mostly no shoes or shoes that were flat because the terrain was steep and rocky and so you had to feel the ground beneath your feet. So moving to a warm place on the Big Island, I gravitated to shoes with thin soles where I could still sense the ground. Then I moved to a cold place on the Big Island, and all the shoes seemed to have pillows and marshmallows for soles. Then I discovered barefoot shoes which already had five pairs of, but I never really thought of them like that. I never got them to “fix” some problem. I just wanted to be barefoot. So Merrill zero-drops were my first. Xero was my next because I work in court and needed ballet flats. Then I got Xero slippers. Those are my go-tos, but my feet are fine. I just want to be barefoot as I can as it’s 20 degrees here tonight! Don’t know if it matters, but I’m 61. Being mostly barefoot my whole life, I have nothing to fix, no comparisons to make. Also got Steger Mukluks because, again, it’s cold here. Not barefoot but they are zero-drop - insanely expensive, but kind of a life-time investment if you live where it’s dropping below zero.

Great video. I totally agree about barefoot shoes. I am a fan but they are not the end all be all. In terms of walking on a bar or putting lots of load or too many reps while squatting down on your toes: please listen to your body and do not push too far in the direction of pain. Use discomfort as information and focus on the moves that soothe the discomfort. Do not feel bad if your foot is limited on what it can do at first. It will get there eventually, don't rush it but keep at it. It took me a very long time (a year essentially) to walk on a bar without discomfort. And I had to back off the bar entirely for months and do other moves that felt better. So please take your time and listen to your feet. Do fight for your foot freedom! it will pay back your whole body 💪💓

I started wearing barefoot shoes at work and on my daily walks. At first i didnt notice much difference but after a few months my feet started feeling way healthier. I used to have all kinds of pain in my toes from playing sports in narrow cleats, all that is gone now (i also switched to wide toebox cleats for sports). Funny part is, when i put on regular shoes now that used to feel comfortable, now they feel restricting, so it is a bit of a double edged sword, but im happy with the results overall.

yup. when I swapped to barefoot shoes, I made a ton of prep beforehand and a ton of work to adjust to it. I won't get into detail (because that would be repeating most of this video's content) but the idea is to strengthen the muscles that were 'lost' to having the wrong shoes

After plantar fasciitis developed from conventional footwear, I was forced to transition to barefoot shoes. It was long and difficult, but now my arch muscles are much thicker and stronger. Here's some critical tips I learned: I found it safest to use barefoot shoes at first as an exerciser, and carry my conventional shoes with me to immediately switch back to as soon as I felt pain. I was shocked at how weak my arch muscles and foot fat pads became; both got significantly injured as I tried to transition too quickly. Bone bruising was also a problem on flat pavement, and took a long time to heal and adapt. I underestimated the transition time. I also learned that my toes were not being activated as part of the pressure points in each step, which put excessive load on my metatarsal bones. In retrospect, I would use the above method over a period of at least a couple of years to be safe. Also, I did have to use orthotics as a crutch to first heal the worst stages of the plantar faciitis, but for sure, they should only be considered a temproary crutch, not a long term dependency. The human foot is not flawed, just misunderstood and poorly adapted to today's shoes and hard flat surfaces.

I've been doing barefoot and foot training for two years, and wouldn't ever go back. Remember to go slow (amount, not speed) when you're first getting into it, especially in any kind of running or even walking on hard, flat surfaces. Also, remember that you need to use pain as a guidepost each day -- similar to tendinopathy (like in the achilles) you need to increase your capacity by doing the correct loading and relative rest (relative rest is basically don't stop your activity, just dial it back a notch so your pain lessens and do your proper loading to increase your capacity). I will say that I've had great luck with Xero shoes for gym use, outside walking and running. I have had some Lem boots (two pairs) that the jury is still out on because they aren't something I've broken in completely (and I'm used to just wearing low tops). Regardless, keep in mind that you may need to try some different shoes to find what suits your feet.

Gotta say, Vibram five finger toes are levels above your standard wide toe “barefoot” shoe. I liken traditional shoes to tight hand mittens; barefoot shoes to loose fitting, thin mittens and vibram five finger shoes are like thin gloves on your hands. 10.5 years of wearing barefoot shoes here, I've come a long way in fixing my bad flat feet I've had ever since early childhood. As of last year, I finally started running without pain, which is something I haven't experienced in all my life before that. I'm now up to 6-7km once a week (giving the connective tissue plenty of time to heal and catch up). Key points for newcomers from my experience: Walking form is key - no heel strike, parallel feet, catching the force with the ball of the feet! Yoga is perfect as supplementary exercise and I incorporate calf raises and tibialis raises into my workout once a week, that also seems to help a bunch. Take the transition slowly! Walk before you run, slowly increase distances, ideally start on mostly natural ground.

Yes they do. Started buying them years ago, changed nothing else, and five years later there is massive improvement. The walk adapts on its own, unless you feel no pain in your feet. Walk 15km a day in BF shoes, five times a week. I can't even describe how well it worked.my little toes were basically fused to their next of kin. Couldn't even move them on their own. Now I'm watching them straighten out, bit by bit. another five to ten years, and I can die with straight toes. So not watching the video, the title is just ridiculous and it's not at all inviting. I already know that it works. And it works great. Halfway reversed 35 years of badly fitting shoes in less than five years.
@Strengthside3 күн бұрын
Yeah but does everyone have the same experience as you? And could you speed up the process if you actually did some feet exercises and not just switched shoes? The title is based on personal experience for some people

@Strengthside the title says my feet. Or to whom is the your in the title aimed at? It says that they won't fix my feet, and they have. It's just semantics, i meant no disrespect. I'm just wondering about titles like that. Might not. I wouldn't have seen that as a breach of credibility. It's the absolute that bothers me. As you said, we are all individuals. I could have sped it up. But i saw no reason. I damaged them for over 35 years. I planned to give them ten to recover. I've got a few things to do, and speed isn't always that relevant to me. I plan to be around for a while :) Thanks for the response. Appreciated.

Do they last long? because I use Xero shoes and they break down so fast.

I've used a pair of Olukais for about a year without the insert and they're still going pretty strong.

My experience is that Lems don't last as long as Xeros. I like lems a lot, but they don't last very long. The newest ones seem to last a bit longer, but are a bit less minimal. Still good shoes, will buy, but just so you know my 2c

My lems last longer than other brands. But it's all subjective, depends on what you do in them. If you wear any shoe hard... it'll give up at some point

Maybe it just says something about my stride who knows. Or worse my ability to track time

I’ve owned 2 pair of lems/ I miss them

Peoples lifestyles are killing their feet and no shoe will just magically fix that. We move less. A move it or lose it.

@Strengthside My family are from Mauritius, they played in better. Not a sign of sore knees or feet. Funnily enough they live longer then my Australian side of the family. One side, eat well, have been through more and don't stop moving.

Lems are ok but they are not fully barefoot as the toebox is narrow.

I'm so disappointed with the redesign of the Lems nine2five. they're my favorite shoes for having a nicer shoe and the new ones just aren't as versatile in look.
