I saw some short video about the crawl switch a couple of months ago and started doing that, very badly I might add. I was amazed at how it developed so many muscles in my upper shoulders and back, and it felt so good! At 67 it's difficult to maintain strength, my gym exercises with machines and weights weren't cutting it. But just that one movement did so much, and then I finally found out what it's called, so I was able to look up all the resources on animal flow and animal movement. My shoulders feel so good now! As I've gotten older I've noticed that one of the main things that gives your body that old man look is loss of upper body strength. I look so much better with my shoulders and chest filled out with muscle.

Thank you so much for posting this video. I watched it about a week ago and started doing it right away. The bear crawl I found the easiest so I decided to give it a serious try. After only a few days I've discovered that my IBS symptoms including intestinal spasms started to go away. I walk differently now, have more energy, my muscles are developing nicely and there is a massive shift in my mood. Sometimes after doing the crawl for about 10 minutes I feel simply overjoyed. Doctors for 45 years didn't know how to help me and one week of bear walking did the trick! Isn't that amazing!?

Crawling just changed my life, too. I can't believe it. This is the first time in years that a workout has not triggered my post-exertion malaise. I'm 23 years old and have been working for several years to overcome my chronic fatigue and other health issues, but strength training is the one thing I could never get back into. I've had many false starts trying to get into a consistent regimen, but I would feel more and more drained after each successive workout, to the point that I would always burn out after 2-3 weeks. This was extremely frustrating, because I really, really wanted to get strong and take up martial arts again. Three days ago, I saw this video, thought, "what the heck" and went outside to practice these crawls. I couldn't believe it. As soon as I started cat-crawling across the park, I started laughing spontaneously because I felt like a happy toddler. The work was challenging, but at the same time, it felt very healing, and when I finished I actually felt BETTER and more energized than when I started. I did some light climbing the next day and yesterday I did crawls again, and I still feel good! If I can do these workouts 3x per week for one month with no burn out, then I will seriously consider purchasing your Move Strong Now program. Thank you both so, so much! Not only is this life-changing information, I really enjoy the chill, wholesome vibe of this channel.

interesting! he gives some valid points on how people are constantly going to gyms and moving in a straight line, but we are neglecting all the other planes that we need to move in to keep our body healthy. For example, have you ever started an activity and realized that a whole different set of muscles are being used? That's what these new exercise regimens are designed to do. Pilates, yoga, tai chi, and kickboxing are some of the exercises designed to make you use muscles that you didn't know you had. It's kind of like basketball players using geometry to perfect their shot, they're training their skills at shooting by flexing their mental muscle. Take ice hockey players, they can train in ballet because there is some amount of grace and rhythm involved in shooting a puck into the goal, all while trying to balance on a 2mm blade on ice.

This is great. Anything that takes a baby from simply lying on their back to walking has to be an ultimate exercise. Will try these in the backyard. So much exercise is unidirectional. Excellent video, gentlemen. I've been in the movement game myself for a while. My only additions to what you show here is to hang from something for time, and to pause all the animal movements from time to time (like when someone calls out, "Stop!") and hold these positions isometrically. I have rehabbed an old shoulder problem with the crab-the one-arm version, if you can keep your hips up, is particularly good. Great work!

Wow, For someone trying this for the first time this is a full body work out, even though I do regular gym work. It seems that it's just what I need for my mobility & core strength & should help for my simple everyday functional activities too - just my general moving around like bending down to pick things up, putting things in cupboards, putting on shoes , snowboard boots & bindings etc. Might sound silly but I've noticed these sorts of things gradually getting more difficult over the last few years. I do realise that it's due more to lack of full movement rather than age. Great introductory video to Animal Flow imo. Thanks.

Even though the Crab uses the posterior chain, there is no pulling in any of these movements, and really lower body Pulling: Monkey bars, hanging, climbing (monkeys/ Spiders) Lower body: Any type of jumping animal. Frog (they can jump) probably is the most complete since it's a full ROM movement.

This is something im very grateful in my karate training for. If you take traditional karate classes a lot of them have you do drills in a lot of the movements you showed here. As a kid I always wondered why, and thought it was some weird game race we did. But now that im older I realize i'm way more mobile and comfortable in doing weird lifting positions other people aren't. I'd say these movements are most important to teach to kids and teenagers. As for the whole stop-and-stare problem. Just learn to put on your earbuds, put on your favorite work out playlist, and let yourself sink into your own world. Once you do that, the stares no longer matter.

agreed crawling type exercises are excellent for preparing the joints!

I really love this video, and the movements are great for mobility, and from what it feels like - softening up the fascia. But umm actually there are 6 movements mentioned rather than 5, plus a combo. 1. Cat Crawl 2. Bear Crawl 3. Ape Traverse 4. Crocodile Crawl 5. Frog 6. Crab Bonus: Crawl Switch.

Thanks. I’m 60 and feeling my age. I’m looking for ways to strengthen, stretch and improve balance. Great movements for me!

I have been watching gymnastics classes of my daughter. They are doing bear crawls, crabs during warm ups and cat crawl on a balance beam. Also noticed an ape traverse a couple of times. It seems so natural for little gymnasts but never thought of doing this myself. Now this all makes total sense to me. Will give it a try. Thanks. 🐈🐾

Just came across this video and after going pretty much primal with my diet, these movements just make so much sense! I love it! Its a great way to connect with ones inner child too. 😊💛

I did never crawl as a baby. I did jump from sitting to stand after one year old. At 50, middle the pandemic, I started to rewire my brain and body and started to explore areas I never used to use. Many people look at these movements as unreachable to get. But since our brains and bodies are fully designed to perform them, they are easier to do as they initially seem to our blocked sensors we call senses. Is just to awaken those brain areas little by little kzbin.infoawY6ZfBCBmE

Yo. I just stumbled upon this. I’ve been looking for something to help improve my mobility more than my current routine. As an ultra runner I spend hours doing the same repetitive motions. This feels like a great way to move in new ways and reduce my chance of injury. I do lots of yoga and training with bands but this seems really complimentary and useful!

Great primal moves that will probably help my back problems. Thank you for these essential exercises and great content and production values (music). Grounding with the earth is important - do these exercises barefooted outdoors in the dirt or lawn.

Thanks so much Josh and Trevor for being so inspirational to me! I'm new here to the Strength Side community but ever since stumbling upon your videos my daily routine has changed so dramatically! Being a Yoga teacher and practitioner my daily Yoga practice was beginning to take the back seat as it was starting to get a bit stale. You guys have inspired me to play around with your different strength and mobility drills and now I incorporate them along with my Yoga practice which has made it so much more enjoyable! My yoga mat is now permanently on my living room floor and Im forever moving around on it throughout the day simply because I enjoy it. Thank you guys for your philosophy on movement and helping me to enjoy my yoga practice again 🙏 Veronica from Australia 🇦🇺
