Hi everyone! Feel free to drop your favourite airport tips below in the comments to help your fellow travellers out :) let's make this the most helpful comment section on KZbin

As usual, your advice is correct and practical. My additional advice would be: don't take anything that airport staff says or does personally. They are not interested in you as a person, you're a traveller who needs to get processed as fast as possible within the requirements of the security rules. Your opinion on how things are handled is irrelevant. It's their process to manage. If you need to get an extra check, it's usually because you made a packing mistake or your behaviour is off (which it might be on your first trip) or it's just one of those random checks. If there's nothing to find, the check will be over quickly. If you start to act like a drama queen, you'll be holding up yourself and the entire line of people behind you. Be polite, compliant and chill out. Bonus tips: go to the toilet as soon as you arrive at the airport. This wil help you remain relaxed while you go through the security check.

Omg the airport is the main source of my travel anxiety. I've been doing research on the airports i'm flying in and out of. The layout, where things are, how to find transport coming and going when abroad. I get there super early because I'm paranoid and I'm completely ok killing time at the airport.

Great tips as usual. Also, at security they might announce to remove tablets from your bag - by this they mean your iPad and not your medication (unless of course your medication is liquids) And to add to your advice about getting from the destination airport to your hotel, make sure you can get to your hotel without relying on your phone - you never know when it will stop working and a few notes scribbled on paper gives one less thing to worry about.

Yes! Have an exit strategy for the airport [or train station]. Predatory taxi drivers target these areas and you can end up paying many hundreds of dollars getting to your accommodation ..

Yes, so important! I’ve definitely fallen for a taxi scam before so I know this to be true first hand haha.

One thing with bringing food…peanut butter in a jar falls under the liquid restrictions but having a peanut butter sandwich is fine. Double check what are considered liquids (pastes) before you go

A workaround is to freeze it. Need to check this won't spoil the usage in any way, but yeah, apparently if it goes thru security as a solid it doesn't matter if it melts after that. I'm not thinking of this in terms of pb but moisturisers etc

Oh wow I hadn’t thought about freezing moisturizer before! I’ve only ever really heard of this hack in the context of frozen water bottles haha but yes I guess freezing other liquids could totally work as well.

@@HappytoWander I was struggling to find a solid moisturiser (I could use - allergies) when planning my last trip and was annoyed that ointments count as liquids, which was when I found that hack. But ended up finding a low-allergenic solid moisturiser at Lush

I definitely agree with giving yourself plenty of time . Don’t start your trip out stressed . And for airport parking many large airports will have places nearby you can park and be shuttled to airport cheaper than parking at the airport . Book those in advance .

Getting to the airport early saved me on a business trip to the U.S. - I had enough time to have the taxi return home so I could grab my carry on, which had been left behind🙀 Putting the baggage tag neatly on my checked luggage is the hardest part 😹

One time I got there 2 hours before (ie- recommended time) but due to significant delays of one of the major carriers at that airport, I barely managed to get thru security in time (I've also heard of security glitches creating long queues). However, these days, there are usually sites or apps you can reference that can tell you about any hold ups that might be happening (for large airports at least)

I’m actually so happy you’ve shared this story because I’ve done the exact same thing (left my suitcase at home while I went to the train station) and thought I was the only one who has had this happen haha. Sadly my story didn’t end as happily as yours - I didn’t have enough time go back for it so I just had to buy new clothes once I got there 😂 luckily it was only a weekend trip but I was so embarrassed!

Ah that sounds really stressful but I’m glad you made it in the end. Could you let me know which apps you use to check how crowded security is at main airports? I actually haven’t heard of that before!

@@HappytoWander sorry, haven't used, only seen mentioned by travel vloggers or advertised in places. I did have one I was seriously looking into at one point that had good reviews but decided to do without. But I would consider again in future, depending where I was going and which airports I was using (according to what I read, certain airports are notorious for delays). And some I think you have to be American, or be flying with certain airlines? It was almost a year ago that I was looking into that, so it's a bit fuzzy. Ultimately I think I decided not to do it bcos I wasn't sure how my internet connection would work out in transit (as it happened it was great but it also wasn't an issue with delays 👍)

@@HappytoWander no apps were involved I had just targeted getting to YOW three hours early - it was also early morning on a Saturday so much less traffic to do the panicked return, and the plane I was catching ended up arriving 40 minutes late which helped too.

Listen carefully to announcements after you clear security and especially once you’re at your gate as there are sometimes gate change announcements.

Triple check those big boards. I had a situation where the gate changed 3 times and the announcement was impossibly garbled. One gate required a long long walk.

Good video! I would add don't spend your time drinking alcohol in airport bars like you are on a night out since it is not healthy for flying or getting along with people. Regarding packing...its possible to go to the other side of the world with just a carry on bag with an extra pair of pants and three or four t-shirts, but if you must take suitcases remember you may have to try finding your hotel after a 12 hour flight in a place you don't speak the language and English speakers are not common (includes your taxi driver if you elect to use a taxi) and how much stuff do you want to try to be dragging along with you in that situation or going from one city to another in another country. Make a research project of your destination and its culture and not just plugging into social media hearsay.

I have a prosthetic hip. Do I need to tell someone before I go through security?

TSA is saying yes, inform the security staff as they are supposed to be trained on how that interacts with the scanning.

Hey Christina, Do you have any experience with Pegasus airlines. I'm flying from Athens, Greece to Zagreb, Croatia. I'm confused on the baggage policy. Website says international flights allow both carry on and personal item. However, some vloggers are saying they may only allow a carry on. Checked bag is allowed. However, I don't want to check my bag. Any help would be appreciated 😊
@HappytoWander
@HappytoWander Ай бұрын
Hi!! Sorry I’ve never dealt with Pegasus before but when in doubt, I would always go for what is written on your specific ticket reservation/confirmation email. It’s possible maybe you’re entitled both a personal item and carry-on but when the flight is full then the airline makes people check their carry on suitcases, which is what the vloggers are referring to? Unfortunately this is becoming really common with a lot of airlines but there’s not much you can do apart from queue up and try to get on before they run out of space! Even that wouldn’t be foolproof though. Hope that helps!
