I adore our Irish dancing & started myself at 4 years as did my daughter and now my granddaughter but some l worry that with the cost of dresses, wigs & tan that alot of gifted brilliant dancers are not getting to show their natural gift because not all parents can afford these dresses etc & good Irish dancing is in your foot work & not these over the top Costumes & all that it now entails. I remember my father dancing on a Sunday in our kitchen with God rest him but he could dance & 3 generations of his daughter, granddaughter and now his great granddaughter. I don't want people to think that I am just one of those complaining people but I have seen fantastic wee dancers not able to complete because of the price of costumes etc.Have we gone a bit over the top because gone are the days of people like my Mother RIP who would have my hair in what looked like rags to put my natural long hair in ringlets for my fheis .

Claire is absolutely amazing. 6 time world champion, she needs to be a lead in Riverdance.

This is six years old now. I wonder where these people are now. I'd love to start Irish dancing just for fun. I was too old when I first saw Riverdance to do anything serious but it's a beautiful art form and the music with it is lovely.

Pink Magic Ali Old comment, but Jessica Hindley actually just won Worlds this year! (I think Jack Quinn did too, but I don't tend to pay as much attention to the boys' competitions because I don't know any of them.) And I REALLY hope you have indeed started since you wrote this... I started at age 19, waaaaay too late to seriously aim for the Riverdance track, but I've made it to the second-highest level of competition at 25 and I'm planning on keeping going until I physically can't anymore! Best of luck to you ❤ Edit: I lied about Jack -- he's with Riverdance now.

The rendition of Planxty Hugh O'Donnell Catie was dancing to always makes me smile when I come back to this. I'm a musician anyway, so I try to be as musical a dancer as possible, but it's not always easy when the music starts to take on the feel of a backing track... this, though, feels so sunny and warm that I can't imagine anything other than sinking into it and _performing._

Also I remember one feis early in my competitive career when Sue Fay Healy adjudicated for one of my dances -- not like that's an unusual occurrence, an ADCRG doing their job, but I was quietly geeking out because I'd watched this beforehand!

It’s funny to think of it this way now, considering how wild things looked in the cupcake dress era, but this was the last moment before the makeup and wigs and tan got completely out-of-control.
