Hi Dev. Many thanks for doing this video. I was a big fan the last time you covered this subject. I seem to be a typical story. I started playing in 1996, stopping about 1999, played a few times over the next few years, then stopped and didn't play until 2015! I work with a lot of geeks. A colleague and I decided to each buy a deck builders toolkit and play. Eventually we were joined by another 15 players from the company, spouses and friends. We play lots of different constructed and limited formats. I have taught a lot of people how to play MTG over the last 2 years. I wish I had decks like the ones featured in this video during that time. More recently my nephews have asked me to teach them the game (9 & 11 years old) and I intended to build these decks as Christmas presents for them. I have a couple of suggestions: • Do these videos more often at strategic times. It'd have been superb if this video came out at the beginning of December for example • Maybe do the decks by price rather than rarity (but keep it super budget - $10 for example). This would allow a few more bomb(ish) inclusions and better explore common archetypes in the game • As I suggested earlier, these make superb gifts. With the inclusion of deck boxes, sleeves, spin downs and maybe even play mats they would be even better (you should tell MTG Player) Love you your channel Dev. Many, many thanks for your hard work.

I built the R/G Hunters and the Mono Red Artifact decks; R/G mainly for my girlfriend who trends toward those colors and the Mono Red for me since I love artifacts so much. I have to tell you, the Hunters deck is a tough fight! I lost that game with the Mono Red. Tried out your build of Sram Enchantress I built for [eventually] using down at the LGS against it, and that deck won only due to her grounding out due to mana flood, (Might have to see about dropping in some more cycling of some sort) but not before she beat me down to 9 life in two strikes before I was able to get a Desert's Hold on that bugger. Have to say, we had a blast playing these builds! Hunters has a lot of potential abuse-ability via sideboard options like Rile and Fling. Thanks for the work you put into your channel and deck builds!! I can't wait to build the other three pauper decks shown here. One last thing, these decks seem to be really great to have someone who is either new or never played before to play, since the overall concept is easily taught, and so much fun to play!

@ich37307 жыл бұрын
the decks are FREE tbh. Most of the cards are draft junk and even if u dont have them already, most people will just gift them to you if u ask :D
@Arghore7 жыл бұрын
It's obviously hard to balance decks against each other, seeing most decks want to do different things and 'winning' implies a dis-balance ... so what you are looking for is 'are these deck fair to play against each other', and even that is hard (i'm sort of trying to build a similar deck collection with budget tribal standard decks, so i run into this as well), and the main thing is to play these decks against each other and note and analyse the matches, then from there you will have to tweak the decks to give them more of a chance. That means either weakening really strong decks (without necessarily hindering their functionality), and if possible strengthening weak decks (if there are commons available) ... Another way to solve these issues is to include sideboards, f/e there is artifact removal in white to the matchup with the two artifact decks (and green and red too for that matter), and there is more cheap removal in black to possibly compensate, etc. and so on. Another thing you may want to consider, as this can just be a pauper deck collection for on the shelve play, is that as new sets come out, you can upgrade the decks, if cards are available, and obviously your on the shelve collection doesn't have to remain 'standard legal', my 'budget tribal decks' started in origins with B/G elves, then B/R Vampires from innistrad, B/W zombies from devastation, and now G/B merfolk will be added. And i use some made up rules to keep decks fair, like landbase construction (mainly equal dual land numbers), rares/mythic inclusion, removal/card draw parity, and sideboard techs to give players options against each other (f/e including 'reach in the form of 'Spidery Grasp' enchantment +1/3 & reach, for the matchup with mostly flying Vampires). So my collection is already outside of standard, but that is no issues as long as i keep them fair against each other, and yes that means some decks get less optimal creatures or spells (or in numbers available in the 75), so what? ... the idea is to provide a fair and enjoyable off the shelve play environment, not building the most competitive decks ;) ... just go for it, $14 to get started seems like a steel, and it can only get better from there on out.

Turn 6 Sun crowned hunters + turn 7 crashed the ramparts + 3 shocks. So minimum would that be 12 damage if it gets blocked? Unblocked 17? Love the Video, but why no Rile in the Hunter Deck?
@edgesong36757 жыл бұрын
Hi, I really like your videos very much. Wanted to leave a little feedback on topic: I played the "GR Sun-Crowned Hunters" against a mono-red peasant deck after work today. Lost 15 of 15 kitchen table games, and not once felt even close to winning. Got a hunter out only twice. At all other times, I didn't get the mana for the hunters or the hunters themselves before I was dead. I really thought that your well thought-out decks would perform better against non-pauper decks, so I'm kind of frustrated now. But then, maybe that's impossible to achieve? Anyways, I built all 5 of the decks, and will try the others as well. I hope it will not get to be as frustrating as it was with the hunters today. Question for all of you that played the hunters: what was your experience with them?
@vindorin7 жыл бұрын
Edgesong I have something based off of his B/W Ixalan Vampires deck and it performs pretty well...
@edgesong36757 жыл бұрын
By now, I played all of the decks for a couple of times. I had some surprise wins with the black and also with the white deck. These two are the most fun to play in my experience. Very happy to have them! Sadly, the control deck misses synergy and a punchy win condition. I feel that I just cycle cards away that I'm going to need next turn, or use good cards up on not so strong targets, just to keep myself alive until I run out of options. I like some of its cards (the Pharaohs, the cycling Illumination, Opt), and would be very happy to get some hints on how to improve that deck.

Wouldn't lightning strike be fine since it was printed at common in a past set? I'd probably use that over open fire under that situation, but I've never done a "standard pauper" deck before and have no idea if the long standing rule for what got printed at common before counts in the standard environment.

Not going to lie here, think this list should be expanded upon ... There is a VERY strong case for Standard Pauper Mono Green Ramp ... Also think U/W Flyers has things going for it ... then in G/U there may well be 2 decks options, G/U Merfolk Tempo, and G/U Energy ...

I'm thinking about teaching some of the younger players some basics. From as simple as enforcing Untap, Upkeep, Draw all the way up to when you choose not to block. I think these would be really great "classroom" decks, so to speak. I'd use $30 of my own money for that. I think 2 or 3 of the guys would attend a teaching class.
