Mtg Budget Deck Tech: Siege Dreadnought in Ather Revolt Standard!

No, I'd keep Spirit. In test games, it was one of the most important pieces. Saves you from 2-for-1s, crews vehicles, flys over for 4 when you cast Start your Engines (even won a game by playing Built to Smash on it because it was my only flyer at the time). There's a reason it's the most expensive card in the deck; if you're removing it for budget reasons, I get that, but if you're cutting it because you think it's bad, give it a play or two first.

Yesssss I've been waiting for this. I've been building a version of this deck that bypasses crewing vehicles as much as possible. I'm calling it the R/W Autobots deck. I really like the interaction of Fleetwheel Cruiser and Siege Modification when you don't have a dreadnought in here. First-strike helps it survive with just 3 toughness, and 8 power with trample ain't no joke. You make a good argument for Selfless Spirit too. An obviously great card from as soon as I saw it, I think it might finally be time to fork out for it. And the Fling hype....hell yeah. For any modern players, Cinder Wall and Torpid Moloch go amazingly with Dreadnought. Drop Dreadnought Turn 1, then some combination of Moloch, Cinder Wall or Toolcraft Exemplar on T2 and swing in for 7 on turn 2. Even if they destroy Dreadnought, it was still just for 1 for 1. Having 12 1-drop creatures that can crew for 3 power each makes crewing for 6 really easy.

Awesome deck Dev, ive been working on this idea for a few months now and you and the comments have definitely given me a few more ideas to work with. I love the idea of resto specialist and key to the city as additions, Fling will be awesome as well. Would you consider doing a mono black aetherborn tribal? awesome synergy with Yahenni and Syndicate trafficker and with servos (servo schematic, animation module)

Thanks for the tip that was some good info, im still curious to see Dev's take on this though :) I have built the deck and playtested a decent amount, i did build it without a budget limitation so a few changes i made: 4 fatal pushes 2 herald of anguish 2 gonti's lord of luxury (i had them sitting around and its a fun card to play with) 1 mainboard Ob nixilis 3 Animation module Ive wanted to test out splashing white for Hidden stockpile and sram's expertise but ive come to the conclusion its not necessary to have the additional servo machines.

I made a similar deck, but with aethersphere harvester/harnessed lightning. Helps you go long with the lifelink. Also it's a sweet 2 drop to play to make way for consulate next turn. Love your deck techs dude =)

Only addition I've been trying to make to this deck archetype is trying to fit in 2-3 copies of Metalwork Colossus... When Fling comes into Standard, this deck and Metalwork Colossus is a tight fit. Congrats on the deck!

he did it a while ago if you look thru past videos. its not especially scientific its not like one thing = a 6 and another a 10. Its more guesstimates bearing in mind how it did in testing and what the meta is like. If you don't find a video on it it might have been in a Q and A but think theres a video on it.

Hello there SBMtG, Love your brews and interesting deck ideas, I have even tried a few. I really wish there was some way to not feel like you can't play auras without losing two or more cards against one. I know some have some built in protection of sorts against being destroyed, but there has got to be a more efficient way to make auras actually less of a loss when the creature they are on dies.

I've been playing dreadnoughts in my vehicle deck alongside staples like Kiran and Aethersphere and I think this card is highly underrated. This and two Toolcrafts give you a 2nd turn 7/11 swing. Key to the city makes it unblockable (and pairs incredibly well with Kari Zev's Expertise). Also removing it means one less removal to deal with Kiran, Aethersphere or Skysovereign. I'm also surprised you didn't opt for built to last as your protection. It's one mana, buffs it at the same time as making it indestructable.

I think I would run Depala, Pilot Exemplar. She seems good for this deck. It can help look at the top cards of you library. Not to mention she pumps both vehicles and the many dwarves in this deck. You can also run built to last as a budget alternative for selfless spirit

That'd be 3 cards for 10 damage with 3 opportunities for disruption and the added benefit that Fling + a non active artifact as a dead combo...

Then fling a Toolcraft Exemplar. Fling a pumped Skyskiff. Fling anything. It's 2 mana and a sacrificed creature for X damage to anything at instant speed, and that's a pretty fine burn spell.

I feel like aerial mod is still sick as a 1 of In the main deck, as Dev said it can be hard to get through with dreadnought and the flying can be awesome. Open the armory gives you some toolbox with it as well, which could warrant some more copies if you made the change. Fling is going to be dirty with this in standard too.

Any thoughts on Caught In The Brights? There is not much in the way of removal for this deck and it has synergy with the all the vehicles as well as Sram. Personally I like Depala over Pia in the 3 slot as she is basically an anthem in this deck which mainly helps for crew costs (Toolcraft or Motorist can now independently crew the Peacemaker) and her last ability can help you to refuel when your hand is on empty (see what I did there). I have played a similar build at my FNM and like the deck a lot, fun to play with and against.

You need Depala for the card draw. Also, main deck Built to Last because it gives artifact creatures indestructible for one mana, effectively a counterspell to Fatal Push and Unlicensed Disintegration. I include a couple each of Foundry Inspector and Cultavator's Caravan.

Couldn't you play a couple copies of Built to Last in the main deck instead of Selfless Spirit? Also i think a solid 2 drop for this deck is Restoration Specialist, can get back a vehicle and siege, also in my deck i run Caught in the Brights because you can also get in back with Specialist and i run 3 Sram and it triggers him as well.

I'm playing a similar deck like this in standard right now, it can just win right out of nowhere surprisingly efficiently- some advice! DEFINITELY need Restoration Specialist in the mainboard, this deck gets 2 for 1'd often as you say, Resto gets you the Dreadnought and Modifcation combo back for 3 mana. Start Your Engines should be a 1 or 2 of, it's only really useful in the lategame. Key to the City is a must, making a modified dreadnought unblockable is super useful cause no more chumping! And with resto specialist you can get back discarded artifacts and enchantments. Running 4 Open the Armory can turn this deck into a semi toolbox build- throw in some Caught in the Brights, a Gryff's Boon and you can get around more threats, because of this I only run 3 Siege Modification in the main. Just a suggestion: I think a single copy of Inspiring Statuary would do wonders for this deck. This card has been over performing for me in all of my artifact-heavy brews. Nothing's worse than having a bunch of vehicles sitting around providing no value; pop one of these down and suddenly you have enough mana to do anything you want for the rest of the game. Especially helpful in these low curve decks where not having enough mana can be a problem. Maybe trade out a Sky Skiff for it, or you can almost go down to 21 lands because it kinda counts as a land!

And I realize it wouldn't help you cast your vehicles or 1 drops, but there are 17 other spells it'd help you cast. I usually pop it out mid-game when there's extra mana, and it's nice because you can use it the turn you cast it; for example turn 4 cast it leaving a white source up, then Selfless Spirit.

Isn't it possible - even if it's not ideal - to tap a 1 power creature to crew, say, Untethered Express and then immediately tap the Express to crew a different vehicle? Obviously not the most efficient combo, but another way to get your big vehicles in the attack phase.

I built something similar that just didn't work out, and sadly had a lot of money in it. had 4 siege mod, 4 dreadnought, 2 nahiri, 2 heart of kiran, 4 inspiring vantage, 2 needle spires, 2 odric, 3 sram, 2 solemn recruit, 3 aethersphere, 4 peacewalker, and a little of some other things. I thought the idea was great but it just didn't work out for me personally, and I don't even remember why it didn't lol. for some stupid reason i sold all the pieces I had to it, kinda wish i had it again because it was actually fun.
