A cool thing I noticed about Samut is if your opponent doesn't block her, speed increases after first strike damage, so all other creatures actually get +2/+0 on attack

Ooh! Idea: Samut eggs. Play all the mana rocks and eggs. If you can swing in with Samut on the first turn, all your artifacts 2 cmc or less are free. Add in some rituals that become super cheap too. Wincons would need some work to identify optimals

I also realized that she gets insane with cloudstone curio, an artifact that draws like Elsewhere flask and any mana rock in hand go infinite to draw your deck and make that much mana. You can then play all your artifacts and fireball the table, or use sunshot militia to tap your artifacts and kill the table. Shiiiiit, I was mostly joking, but this deck might have legs. I may proxy it up

That Orzhov God is incredible. In flicker decks too. Ephemerate draws you 3 cards over two turns. Scaveging Ooze is G: draw a card.

I don't think most of those actually works..... It draws when it exiles from the battlefield or graveyard..... The 2 flickers of ephemerate would work but the ephemerate itself wouldn't cause it exiles itself from the stack. Plot and adventure also Exile from hand or stack.... Collect evidence would but only the 1 draw and just if them have large cmc you need to Exile. Scooze is definitely his best friend though.

leyline and rest in peace would only work on permenants leaving battlefield cause it replaces the death with Exile, so it is exiling from the battlefield, however any milled cards or instants exiles after cast would not cause it gets refined from the stack

As an Insidious Roots, Cauldron and Scavenging Ooze enjoyer, Ketramose is gonna be a mainstay in my Abzan decks for sure. A 3 mana draw engine that will very likely turn into a great creature that helps turn things around against aggro is exactly what I need. Any Forage decks are gonna have a really easy time hitting the 7 exiled cards threshold too. Tbh I wish it literally cost WBG for brawl/commander purposes, but it'll be welcome in the 99 alongside Kaya regardless.

That Mako looks like it'd be good in Izzet, they've made quite a few 'discard' effects in Izzet in this set. That other shark pirate does something similar. I wonder if they'll find their way into the izzet pirates deck. Thrill of possibility looks like it might be better in this set.

I'm not that big on the lore/looks of this set, but I think we're going to see some crazy synergies that come from it that will completely reshape standard again. I can see the survivors from Duskmourn finally having something to do with all these vehicles coming.

The flavor fail of not having any of the pilot cards have the +2 crewing ability themselves is killing me. And these pilot guys would be neat if they were in any of the other 3 colors that have playable mounts or vehicles.

If max speed and start your engines are mechanics closer to Day/Night, then it will prob be better than it seems. What I mean is when you play one Day/Night card, its now tracked for the rest of the game. Even if the card that introduced it is removed. So you start your engine early, and it just tracks for the rest or the game just because. Then by as early as turn four, these cards are turned on. It's seems like a set it and forget it get value later kind of thing. All it takes is a land or 1 drop thing that starts your engine early, and then some game ending creature or spell that becomes OP broken at max speed.

Worth noting that your Speed starts at one, which means it can increase to two on the same turn you _Start Your Engines!_ With the cards spoiled so far, it's available on turn 4 at the earliest, but there could conceivably be a card that both has _SYE!_ and can deal damage on turn 1, bringing the earliest turn it could go online to turn 3 theoretically.

Agreed about that Samut, it looks VERY commander-ish. Longer games, higher mana, but also the payoff making it work like a ramp once you get max speed. If you can 'Start your engines' on turn 1, and pretty consistently hit it, by the time you can cast that commander all of your creatures are 4x less to cast.

Mako just seems like another “goblin blast runner” card, very Timmy no keyword abilities. It’s just not gonna grow that big and suffers from the “Stickfingers” effect where if it does get big it’s still not threatening. Gives me ascendant packleader vibes, not every one drop is gonna break formats because it gets a little bigger. I’m not saying this can’t be a good print but I don’t see the racecar set being among the most beloved. Should probably wait until more cards are spoiled before making bold statements
