When we go out on our skis I like to put the handle end of my gun up by my feet and loop the bands around the rear seat side handles and back around the shaft, never had one come loose doing that

This is the one I’ve used Drift Control Fisherman Series - 48 in www.amazon.com/dp/B00274HRQW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rkyXEb3AGX4VB Only bad thing is the UV destroys it pretty quick if it’s not always stored in the shade. It would be nice to find one that lasts longer.

I know you have a ton of space with the sled, but have you considered sponson boxes on the gunnels, one with ice for putting the fish in, the other for spear guns and other gear, being held inside and not exposed? Thanks, I love your setup, great video! EDIT: Do you use weighted line for your anchor line? I would think it less likely to have issues if the anchor line was weighted, like for crab & shrimp pots…..

Hey Mark or anyone else that spears off a ski! How exactly do you conduct a drift dive off a ski? Do you tether your float rope to the ski and drift with it or do you deploy the drift sock and use a reel gun? Been scratching my head on this one for a while

killer! Thanks for the info on that setup. One of the bummers for me about the ski is the sun exposure, not a lot of reliable aftermarket bimini tops out there for skis. Its got me thinking of building a solid one out of aluminum tubing, custom welded kine. Something that goes front to back with a shade top and maybe configure side mounting for speargun/sling, maybe even boards mounted on top. with your experience, What are you thoughts on the windage and tip of something like that?

It’s a cool idea and I’ve seen versions of that. Like you mentioned wind and being top heavy/tipping is going to be a challenge.

Cool very instructive info, I’ve been doing this since 2007, I fish dive off of it. Just had one thing I could share with you that I do that might help you, your bow line, I use a bungee with rope, it’s about 3’ long that stretches up to 6’, what that does it takes the pressure off of the anchor and one more thing that helps make things easier to bring your anchor up is a little float, like those ones they use to mark a mooring, what that does is it keeps your anchor rope from rubbing on the oceans floor and when it time to go it’s so much faster... hope that helps you 🤙🏽 dive safe

Have you seen the fish pro pro from sea doo?thoughts. Can You use the ski year round? Or do you have to shut it down for whales. Then your back on the inflatable? Keep pushing out the content. Mahalo

Yeah, that Sea Doo looks cool, but I don’t have any first hand experience with it. We can go out year around. There are some PWC exclusion zones, so you just have to know where those are

Excellent video Mark ! I also run a jet ski for Spearfishing in CA. When you dive blue water, how do you setup your floats, bungees, etc for shooting a gun rigged on breakaway?

I usually run a Gannet’s big inflatable float with 10’ of bungee (attached on the float end) connected to a 100’ Riffe hard line. If I’m going after real big stuff, I run two of those floats separated by a 10’ bungee 🤙🏼

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I’ve been running a 75’ riffe bungee straight off the bow of the ski to the spear and using the ski essentially as my float. In CA I use the ski to primarily dive paddies and chase tuna.

This is awesome I’m getting a ski for spearfishing here in San Diego do you recommend the soft bad as apposed to getting the jet ski cooler racks?? What soft bag do you use for the bigger palegics ?? Strap the kill bad down on the board?

I go soft coolers so I can save some space and also to keep the ski from getting top heavy and tippy in the chop. I honestly don’t have a big kill bag that I recommend as they all the ones I’ve used over the years have been pretty unimpressive. killbags.com looks like they have some good ones coming out though. Going to try one.

Did you put marine carpet in the gunnels to protect the ski?

I don’t know if it would be considered marine carpet, but it’s a heavier gauge version of the kind of grip you’d see on SUP boards. I definitely like having it on. Most of the time I ride standing up or side saddle to save my back with the chop. If I have guns in the gunnel on one side I’ll have my foot on top of the gunnel (if that makes sense) and the grip helps me to not slip. Also helps gear to stay in place better 🤙🏼
