the thing with striking is it doesn't take long to look good and learn basic techniques but it takes a long time to master distance, movement and timing

Leroy Gallagher Thank you! A lot of people think that flashy kicks are a sign of a good striker. But it's the distance, angles, faints, timing, rythm, set ups and all the subtle things that allow you to sneak in a head kick from hell.

@gorehound, no probs there. But, when you see these ex-football players doing UFC and getting in the big events after some 10 fights, it just proves it takes a lot less talent to be on UFC or to grapple. You don't see ex-football players becoming boxing contenders after 10 fights. They become jokes in boxing.

@@johndorsey7165 Bangkok (Thailand) is the place to be if you're a Muay Thai fighter, some of the best in the world fight there almost on a bi-weekly basis. For someone to train for 6 months and go to fight there is a lil over the top. But it's funny because no one really uses Bangkok/Thailand to compare how good thier striking is.

k. I am 4 years blue belt in jiu jitsu. I think i do good and stuff, and probably would handle myself against any 189 pound bum who has no fighting experience on street. But. Once i saw a pro boxer sparring at our gym, i knew instantly, i have a big fist size hole in my game. I mean, i can't hit or move like that. it would take me another 4 years to even get the basics of that kind of hand movement done. I can imagine someone starting shit with a good boxer and getting their lights out before they even know what hit them. So this video is on point.

You don't need to be anywhere close to good at boxing in order to deal with a good boxer, just learn how to turtle up and go for a clinch as fast as possible. You will get punched directly once or maybe twice but the moment you grab your opponent it's all over, people IRL are not well-rounded MMA fighters thus they're shit against even mediocre grapplers and most of them don't have KO-power. As a Greco-Roman wrestler with about 2.5 years of experience I could probably take on 95% of the guys at my local boxing gym, it should be even easier for you since you train in BJJ and unlike me you learn lots of submissions.

I grew up boxing (cross trained into MMA later on) but I see this quite often. The striking coaches hold the mitts like shit, allow the fighter to throw a punch with shitty technique, and these grapplers take a lot of damage trying to strike with a pure striker. Ronda would still be on top if she remained grappling. Most grapplers would be doing the same.

Even today MMA is still evolving, figuring out what works, and it will for a while before it's a finely tune system, I mean sh*t it took boxing over a hundred years to evolve to what it is today, I think a lot of people forget that, it's happening slowly but it is happening because today's MMA techniques are becoming a lot more tune then what it was back in the early 2000s. MMA fighters are trying to learn several different styles to try and make it look like it's one seamless style, so yeah it's gonna take awhile. Even though MMA started back in the 90s it's still decades behind other established fighting styles I.E. boxing, Muay Thai, Bjj, wrestling, judo etc... etc. I mean it takes years to perfect and became a high level fighter in just one style of fighting now you're training MMA and trying to learn several styles at once.

It seems like a lot of fighters don't have game plans. I think this happened to Ronda. What has made certain fighters very successful is that each fight has a specific plan of attack customized for the fight at hand and a the fighter's greatness is revealed in their ability to adapt while emphasizing their areas of expertise and strengths.

It's a been proven, there is no debate on the state of the earth's shape that should ever be taken seriously. I'm all for questioning things, but we don't live on a plane covered by a glass dome that lets water in through windows and at night is covered by Marduk's cloak that has stars sewn into it. As for my general dislike of religion and the people who think killing one another over who's god has a bigger dick, yeah the world would be better off with out them. Same with anti-Vaxers, and guys who think contrails are chemicals being sprayed into the atmosphere by the government to kill us.

Some of the heavyweights tend to be the best boxers in the UFC. JDS is a good example. His boxing is excellent. Roy Nelson is a good boxer. Mark Hunt is a good boxer. Miocic is a good boxer. Overeem is a VERY good boxer. He has superb power in those hands. Miocic took one of his hardest punches ever from Overeem in their match. There are others, too. Even though Werdum is known for his ground game, he is also a technically sound boxer. And let's not forget Cain Velasquez. So, for some reason, the heavyweight division has some really good boxers. The heavyweight division takes a lot of shit for being a rather unexciting division, but I don't see it that way at all. They have some of the best strikers in the sport of MMA. Remember, Lesnar is mostly known as a wrestler, but when he faces good strikers he gets lit up. He doesn't have the chin. He especially got lit up when he faced a good wrestler who ALSO happened to be a good boxer in Cain Velasquez.

burnindownthehouse i thinks its because they can consistency knock out with the hands at that weight so head kicks and other high risk high reward strikes are less useful because punches which are comparatively low risk can still ko with consistency

Watch one of those fighters you've mentioned, then go look at TJ or Cruz. 5 round fights at heavyweight can be really dull because they get gassed and after round 2 there's no movement, it's all static. TJ V Barao was an absolute masterpiece, when you want to show someone an example of mma, show them that. TJ in my opinion is one of the best all time already. So exciting to watch.

It's all relative. None of these guys are what you would consider "good boxers." Boxing is soooooo much than just punching. The punch is just the final phase of a kinetic chain of movements hence the power, speed and accuracy are on a different level compared to that of an MMA fighter's strike. That said MMA guys are getting better at boxing.

Summarize the entire episode: Ego is a killer and is often what ultimately makes or breaks people. We see it in the physique sports with bbers and such just like the combat sports. No one ever lost a fight due to too much humility, but they lose fights all the time due to ego which is often supported by their own coaches and others in their circle telling them how bad ass they are. As far as legit killers, such as those in the SOF community, you''l often find the most experienced senior guys are very down to earth guys in my experience. Confidence in your abilities is good, raw blind ego, not so much.

It’s more the UFC. They are pushing standup fighters & denigrating grappling. Paying the bonuses to standup fights, giving them the more visible card positions & cutting the grapplers.
@USER-qs9od

the fans prefer to see striking. The hamburg crowd enjoyed the roberts zawada fight as it was back and forth and not just law and prey. Too many grapplers aren't active on the ground.

USER 1 the problem is it’s the strikers that are stalling it out on the ground. So why are we rewarding them for thier inaction by taking them out of a bad position and placing them in a neutral Position? It’s encouraging stalling and eliminating MMA. Without the ground it’s just San shao
@USER-qs9od
@USER-qs9od 6 жыл бұрын
the strikers can get dodgy standups because of poor reffing so thats a problem. Standups are needed for mma to be a viable entertainment business .
@russellward4624
@russellward4624 6 жыл бұрын
USER 1 I disagree. The whole point of the 5 minute rounds was put in place instead of these arbitrary stand ups. Having stand ups as well as 5 minute rounds gives no time to work on the ground. It’s why there are so few submissions anymore. The reason the ground game has stalled is because we reward them for stalling. If they had to get out of a bad position on their own it would open opertunities for action and submissions. Instead it’s a smarter tactic to stall and get rewarded and wearing out the grappler having to secure 5 & 6 takedowns a round.
