Indomitus is a great box for sure. Personaly I think the Command Edition Starter Box might be the best one to go for! Enough units for a nice little force and not loads to get your head around. Also a nice game board and a bit of terrain too! Next steps could be getting the terrain expansion box for £50 to up the scale a bit, along with another box of something to add to the Necron and Space marines forces, like a small vehicle or an elite style unit for each! :) 🧙‍♂️

Have you thought about maybe playing a few patrol, starter set sized games on the channel to perhaps show newcomers what kind of games they might play? even just one or two on the channel would be great!

Have a look at Midwinter Minis. They just started a Start Collecting Knockout Tournament. 16 box sets with armies randomly matched against each other in knockout format. They just did the first game of Khorne daemons v Orks. Approx' 500 points and only two rounds of fighting for a result. Maybe this chap can contact Guy

I remember first starting at the beginning of 7th and watching this channel actually to help me pick what army I wanted. I picked DA half because of the lore half cause well the box set but watching the first battle reports of challenge the Scorpion game really helped me learn the basic rules and also basic deployment and army composition. Seeing how drastically the rules have changed from then until now I appreciate these videos. Great job!

If it is Games Workshop, buy a practice box that gives you models paints and a brush. That will tell you if you like the painting. Maybe buy a troops box but I think a Start Collecting box. That gives you a mini army with HQ, big unit and troops and will save you quids as opposed to buying them separately. They do it for 40k or AoS. Also look at GW web site for painting tips, like getting a unit "Battle Ready" or "Parade Ready" even if you haven't done painting before.

If you don't like the painting side then if you're ok with spending even more money there is plenty of people or companies that are willing to paint your army for you with varying quality and price.

What kinds of things should a club that is just starting focus on? With limited funds, should the club focus on terrain and tables for people to play on? Or use the money for other things?

A lot of terrain at SSWG is scratch built, a lot of members chip in and help, also people donate stuff. Better than blowing out cash for new terrain...not a good idea if you are just starting out:)

@@StrikingScorpion82 Thank you! We do have lots of people sharing their terrain now. I was just wondering if we should work on getting more terrain for events or focus funds elsewhere. There aren't any other gaming clubs, so we are in uncharted waters.

@@justinburton7919 Tough question. I'd grow your terrain with the natural growth of the club. Actual gaming tables is something worth expanding, but again, only as the club naturally grows.:)

I started with Ed 2 starter box set for my sons. We were hooked. Now have a bunch of armies and playing all size battles. But also see if you can find a gaming club. Just wonder along and chat, they love to show off their stuff and maybe spot you an army for a small game.

As far as i love the chanel an i am a big fan i am really dissapointed with this video. This video should be relevant in time we started a hobby.. in mid 90's. 1:Buy and play another hobby games.. WTF he doesnt even start with 40K (Begin YOUR Journey Here). This is a stepp-off for many players just in this first point, they didnt even started and you advice them to invest more money even they are willing to buy heavily overpriced products. 2: Buy white dwarf magazine? WTF why? We have youtube, we have google.. AT first find someone who will step with you into the hobby and discuss with him/her what you want to play. Go to hobby store try to find someone who will play with you and teach you the rules. 3: If you want to start with 40k buy the basic box together with your friend and split armies. If you will want to join some local comunnity, speak to them and do a faction research, then buy yourself a start collecting box. Play with them combat patrol games first (smaller games). 4: Do not commit into games with more than 1000 pts. 5: Buy and paint. Do not hoard stuff because its cool, buy only stuff which you will assembe and paint in next weeks.
