great tips mate. folks into black/death metal should check out the closing solo on the thulcandra track "gates of eden". really nice bending by guest soloist peter huss (from Shining). go check it out.

I have a hard time with adding vibrato to a bent string, especially when bending a whole step. Any tips on practicing that or technique to bend, then still have the control and strength to add vibrato without losing the note?

you could have explained how do you actually bend,what does your wrist and fingers do.many newbie guitarists could find that helpful.i learned it the hard way,after having some serious middle and ring finger joints pain :/

Is it possible to bend past a whole step? Like bending a minor third?
@BenHigginsOfficial8 жыл бұрын
Yes, that would be a whole tone and a half bend. You can also bend two whole tones, a major third. These larger bends won't be as attainable on the lower frets though.

Thanks. I tried to bend past a whole step a few days ago and I thought I broke a string but all I heard was a snapping noise instead. I tuned up and it's ok right now, but I'm uneasy about bending past a whole step now. I'm playing with a set of 9s in standard if it makes any difference. Great lesson.

Sometimes strings can get caught on a piece of unfinished metal on the bridge and do a horrible pinging noise when you bend

David Gilmour in his solo for "Another brick in the wall" did a 2 and a half step bend at one point.Once you develop the feel with the smaller bends it's easier to achieve the bigger intervals.
