I used your technic this afternoon, worked like a charm on my Telecaster. Thanks a lot.

First-time amateur luthier here, I had to drop me two cents. I'll be honest my experience wasn't as 100% smooth as this video but I would still say it worked like a charm and there's no damage to my beautiful custom Walnut Warmoth strat body. Just go slow, take your time and be patient. I also shielded the surround finish with a soft cloth out of an abundance of caution. First time building a guitar let alone sinking ferrules. The smallest tasks can often be the most challenging thanks SO much for the pro hack.

All demonstration videos should be this succinct! I'm going out to my garage right now to heat up my cheap-o iron. Thanks for the guidance.

That is fantastic. I just tried it on all 12 of my ferrules. Worked great. I did have a little bit of the lacquer run on the front side ferrules. But, nothing major. It cleaned up.

Used this trick tonight on an alder Strat body: worked perfectly! Each one went in flush. I was worried about not using glue, but they look/feel solid in there
@gugarl2 жыл бұрын
The heat will mealt the finish and glue the ferrules.

Gustavo Rocha Leite so the reason I was watching in the first place was my tele kit came with no grommets for throughbody strings, and I just set it up like that and thought I’d do it later, but now I’ve seen a vid that says there’s no difference.

So I bought a Jazzmaster body that is drilled out for everything and just got my Fender ferrules. The ferrules drop in with ease, but unfortunately they drop right back out too. The body is spray painted if that helps... Any ideas?

Nice trick! I’m a little puzzled though. High School science class teaches us that heat expands metal and cold contracts. You would think freezing them would be the answer...
@andreeadobre31905 жыл бұрын
I think the point is to transfer heat into the wood to make it a little more flexible.
@gugarl5 жыл бұрын
Yes, phisics never lie, right. The trick here is the finish that wil melt down.

How do you get the holes in back of body? What size drill bit? Thanks!
@gugarl7 жыл бұрын
Stephen, I got it already drilled. But the drill bit will depend on ferrule size.

Its a good tip! But if possible I’d always prefer to get the ferrules flush with the body.

There are two types of ferrules - flush-fit and flanged. For a flush ferrule...you guessed it.
@kommi19746 жыл бұрын
These are flanged, not flush.
@markrup63695 жыл бұрын
This is crazy. I would have thought the heat would EXPAND the ferrule, making it slightly larger in diameter. How does this work??
@gugarl5 жыл бұрын
You're right, but the hot iron will also melt the finish.
@Juampi19756 жыл бұрын
