You could totally do a valentines themed video like your spooky repots! You could do a Valentine’s Day themed pot of some sort, even just painting it or something and then tell either a true crime story about a couple from the past, or something like that!

Fern, anytime I start kind of neglecting my plants or just not appreciating them as much as I once did, I see one of your videos of the same plants and it sparks my need to make them thrive again. If it weren't for you and all your videos of how much you love and care for all your plants so many of mine would not he here with me today. I go through terrible funds. Thank you for always sharing your plants and plant care with us. I appreciate you so very much!

Who can't love cascades of hearts draping down a cabinet or from a hanging basket. So beautiful!!! Love this plant. Beauty with ease of care. The perfect plant!!! When my string of hearts was small I use to put it outside. Now with longer strands it stays indoors.

I agree with you about KZbinrs warning us to let all of our plants dry out before watering. They have us paranoid to the point that our plants are stressed. In their natural habitat they are mostly kept damp all the time from frequent rains. I have started watering mine more frequently and before they totally dry out, then I water lightly, not until it runs out the bottom. They are all doing better. Of course not cacti or succulents.
@BoojiePanda8 ай бұрын
Hi Fern! I very much enjoyed this style of video, where you focus on just one plant with your own experiences, a repot, going over propagation, soil mixes etc... and then do the Q&A. I feel like I learned a ton from this, and now the SoH doesn't feel so intimidating. Adding one to my wish list!

I'm growing my variegated string of hearts in pon and it's so happy. It's in a wicking self-watering planter, so it gets consistent moisture but it's a much less wet environment than if you sat the pon directly in the reservoir. When I first started the plant from butterfly cuttings placed on top of the pon, I initially filled the reservoir right up so it covered the bottom of the pon and kept it pretty wet through to the surface. Then I put a clear plastic container over the top as a humidity dome. The inner pot is clear, so once I could see my cuttings had sent roots down into the pon, I let the reservoir drop until only the wick was in it, which is how I keep it. I just refill whenever it gets low, but there is always enough to keep the wick wet.

I have orange River. So far it is my Favorit. I Like the green leaves, it is a dark neon green. The leaves turn orange, if you give them bright indirekt light. The flowers are gorgeous. They are white and bigger compared to the regular one. Would love to send you cuttings. But i live in Germany. Someone told me it is Not allowed to send plants to canada. But let me know if it’s possible. Love your chanel 😍
@halynnbass97598 ай бұрын
Once I take cuttings I just pop them right back into the soil and they seem to root up pretty quick! Haven't had any issues doing it that way so far. Only thing I would suggest is just spraying the soil in the section you pot them into every couple of days for a few weeks, so A) you don't over water the rest of the plant and B) the new vines stay moist in order to root up.

I totally agree with you on the misconception of treating SOH’s like a cacti or succulents,they require more. Water than that. I have mine growing outside ((Australia) with couple of hours of morning sun,and they love it. Mine even go into seed. I also have some growing indoors under a grow light. Great information Fern. 💚🪴🌿

I’ve had to unpot my string of hearts and put the remaining stems in water. No matter what I’ve tried for pots mine never dries out after watering so stars to drop leaves and stems. I had it potted in a cactus and succulent mix but that must’ve still been too dense. got my fingers crossed that the cuttings grow roots and the already rooted stems recover.

Thank you. Great video. I have a green and variegated mixed together. I got just a few strands of the variegated and wasn't enjoying the look so mixed. Great to hear that's okay, enjoying it so much now. Took a bunch of butterfly cuts, but next time totally going for this method. Looked so much more rewarding and easier to pot.

I water mine only like once a month and it does fantastic! But we all have different experiences so I’m sure different things work for different people. I have so much variegated SOH it’s becoming a real chore to trim and propagate. 😂 I just potted up the cuttings in my prop box from September and now I need to do it all over again lol

I list leaves and strands when it lost the sun on top of it. Now it’s just a “bald head”. But it’s got a grow light on top of it
@RachelVandenbroeck8 ай бұрын
I haven’t tried it with my string of hearts yet but I tried with my string of spades which is the same principle… to fix the baldness on top I added butterfly props all over then top layer of soil.. and waited. Was a total experiment but they all rooted just in regular humidity and light and all pushing out new vines!!! 🙌🏼 so that is the answer to balding string-of’s, I need to repot all mine so will be doing this method soon ❤ sorry for the long comment I’m just excited. They’re so resilient! I had rats eat my entire very full and trailing 8” pot of string of hearts in ONE night. (Plant lives outside.) I was devastated! I ignored it for less than a year and it’s fully grown back! It’s not trailing yet, but the pot is full again.

I combined my green and variegated SOH in chunky aroid mix with a self watering pot and they are doing very well. They were just cuttings so potting them together seemed like a good idea. All are loving the moist environment of the self watering wicking pot. And I never gets dry or wrinkled now. I love seeing you reworking yours. I put each stem in separate to add growth all around the pot but I am impatient in wanting fuller pots. LOL!! See you on the next video.

unfortunatly my String of Heart was covered in thripse (was my first pest and I just thought it was change of location + end of summer problems...) and it was super bold. I did many cuttings (butterfly method, checked today... Looks like many of them rotted 🥲), washed it several times and now it is in a bigger pot with a growlight right next to it. I am very happy seeing it growing again and hope the thripse leave my String of Hearts alone..... Also I wanted to say: are u sure you were looking at the right pictures when searching for orange river? I did too and I find their leaves look way more sharp and more like a triangle.
