String Safari Review - with Tom Vasel

So is it String Safari or String Savanna like written in the game description?

I didn't like this one. The arbitrary rule of the new tiles have to be "finger length" apart is very fiddly, and getting the tiles to fit is also kind of fiddley, cuz it might be on the edge of the card and look like it's not inside the string to one person, but it looks like it is to other people. I never played String Railway, but I heard this is kind of a step back from that.

String railway is definatly superior in every way in my opinion. The artwork is much better. It's also not as fiddly. Even though they are both light, I find railway more thematic as well. However, the big thing is how big this box is compared to the compact version of railway. Pass in every way.

Dear IDW, the ridiculous box-size-to-components ratio shown here is the reason I've stopped buying your games. Surely you have seen the clever packaging which Foxmind created for String Railway and you've read the negative reaction buyers have had to the packaging for Machi Koro. Just stop. Please.

More filler games from Tom. I feel as though these games are all he covers now, when he actually does reviews. If he does not get to more substantial games more frequently I feel like his next kickstarter will do much worse than it did the last time.

Michael Barselow Unfortunately, I think it's more a reflection of how many new games being released are light fillers, rather than Tom's personal picks for reviews. I would imagine he is actually sparing us the majority of them, sifting through to review the ones that merit it. Then again, he has Ryan to do the meatier games.

Solo Falcon1138 I don't need him to review multiple games that take up to 5 hours a session to play, but I do want to know about more than filler games that take 45 minutes or less to play.

winterplum If that is the case this deluge of filler games is insane, but if he is I thank him for sparing us the reviews. On the other hand I do not think Ryan is there to cover all/most of the meatier games. For example he reviewed Forbidden Stars last week, and only 7 other games. Those other 7 games were filler games (20-40 minute play times). My biggest point is he keeps saying he will review "more" games but has not delivered on that for weeks now. He is the face of The Dice Tower and he needs to follow through with what he says he is going to do.

Michael Barselow Ryan IS there to cover most/all of the meatier games, mostly 'euros'. Tom covers light-to-med light games, and 'ameri-trash', with the occasional review like Viticulture/Tuscany thrown in. I too am disenchanted with the glut of filler games that have invaded the gaming hobby. I don't have any interest in many of the reviews that Tom has posted lately. That being said,Tom, and his network is still a catalyst to promoting the hobby, and currently it has enrolled a shipload of newcomers that the business side is catering to with the light stuff. As they grow in the hobby, so will the demand for games with more substance, (knock on wood). I don't know if the video uploads are in keeping with the Dice Tower 'promises' (from the KS campaign), I am more for quality over quantity, but if he were to do even more filler game reviews in a week, would that really satisfy those who are not interested in fillers? Are you bothered about he content of the reviews or the amount of them being posted?...I am not sure. In any case, I could really do without the fillers myself, and I can agree with you that they are over-represented to a degree. I am hoping that the up-coming conventions will usher in some new games of more interest. :)
