I used to regularly ride my bicycle up and down Pierce Rd. in Itasca when it was just a two-lane, gravel, farm rd. back in the late 70s and early 80s. I remember when that road was first paved. Then when Park Boulevard was built to accommodate the Hamilton hotel, at that time. Eventually, the hotel, the buildings surrounding it, and the driving range were built up. And I left that area in the late 90s. So I knew that area intimately for about 25 years. Even from 2000 till today it’s unrecognizable. This neighborhood, which I believe is across Arlington Heights Rd, was just a very quiet, tucked away community that you would barely even know is there. The 80s was a boom in construction for Itasca. There were a lot of areas there that were relatively unincorporated, and still had the covenants and laws and regulations of a farm community. For example, you could have goats, chickens, And raise rabbits in your backyard. 😂😂 Back then you could’ve probably bought 10 acres for $60,000 😂😂

Delivered packages for ups for that exact neighborhood. That little stretch of Marino. And the bay condos right off Devon were the only residential on that route, all the other deliveries were those office buildings across the street. Was a great route, and always thought how nice it would be to have a piece of propery there.. that was back in 2012

Such a horrible sad and disgusting thing to do to the people a community and many beautiful things and memories that have never had an opportunity to be realized will never be known. Probably the greatest horror to be waged on people in America. How could this have been allowed to be done. It’s pretty much been happening to the little neighborhoods around O’Hare for decades. There was also a little neighborhood on Devon and 83/Busse Rd. Then the neighborhood that was on the south west corner of O’Hare (to make room for the southern runway.) With the huge project of connecting the 90 and 294, I won’t be surprised if another part of Bensenville also loses more homes :(

I spentv half my life in Elk Grove, and had friends in all those neighborhoods. One friend's parents built a 100% custom home in Mohawk Terrace maybe 15ish years ago to retire in. Within a decade, they were forced out of their dream home and had to move. There were houses the were a lot nicer than the Centex "5 different models of houses/ plus the mirror images of those houses" in E.G. the folks who built in the early 80's made some good money on those places, but anyone who built late 90's/early aughts on really didn't do well. The old neighborhood is changing.

Two things... 1) Here's a sobering chance to see what happens when you die. Everything you own is going to be sold off and scrapped, your whole life pretty much meant what amounts to pocket change. 2) The new owners must have paid a pretty penny over market value. I can't imagine moving and nit taking literally everything, unless literally everything was paid for in a way to make it real easy to replace. This fact alone begs the question of why/what is so important for a private entity (data center/warehouse/whatever) to own so much land and guarantee no close neighbors.

the church at 39:15 is my old childhood church, just north of marino ct. the developers offered the church $6M to sell the building and land, and it caused a huge stir with the congregation. thing is, the church is a catholic church and it is owned by the archdiocese and they blocked the sale. i guess they didn't want to incur the wrath of korean baby jesus, nor the pope. for now, i guess the developers and the village of itasca hasn't gone after the catholic church, but we'll see.

To top it off the disgusting greed they would rather destroy really good things than let someone make use of it. They shouldn't have the right.
