It’s getting harder and clearly disappointing to continue to hear that that these older fabulous homes are being demolished 😢 I wish the more of the wealthier class ( and developers ) would have more interest it saving and restoring these places rather getting rid of them for new STUFF !

In the late 1800's early 1900's they used marble and granite for alot of bathrooms and bathtubs. Very elegant. Which is why they use it for countertops in kitchens now. I could tell which decades the add ons were made by the materials used(60's, 70's, 80's) Thanks for the tour!

They want to build a distribution center with 60 plus semi's going through it a day in Highland Park IL. It's the old solo cup factory right across the street from Highland Park police station. You should check that out and do a story about it. No one else is. Not one person in the community wants this but it looks like it's going to go through. Next council meeting is Oct. 23rd.

Beautiful footage of the mansion. The thought of it being demolished is sad. It’s a beautiful estate. Loved the circular rooms. So much to love about this property. Looked like a Nice cedar closet in the attic. (The room you said smells like wood) there’s tons of work it needs. No one would restore it I don’t think, but worst part is losing so much of the old structures and the craftsmanship that was put into each house all those years ago.❤

Very pleased that today's times, are not so class division obvious. Of course people don't want them. In present times, these palaces are seen for exactly what they are. Money pit white elephants. And who wants them ? Seriously ? Who wants to shell out 10 million or more, to live in a dark, massive, oppressive dust collecting "home", and pay for that through the roof place, and then devote the upkeep and maintenance required for it to be immaculate and impressive ? There is the utilities costs, the furnishings costs, cleaning it costs, maintainance costs, any restorations and upgrades , heating it costs etc. And, aside from that, what does one actually do, with all those rooms ? And that's just the inside readers. Then, there is all those same considerations for the gardens and grounds outside. The landscaping maintenance, and gardening upkeep. All the management and time required outside to make sure it doesn't become a weedy overgrown jungle. And that is what is going on in today's times readers. No one, has the resources, time or money to want the ostentatious oppulance, most with a brain just are not interested in keeping up with the Joneses. anymore as that was the way in the seventies, and these monstrous places, are becoming white elephants. Because the middle classes are quite content with being closer to minimilist and still having a decent quality of life, and leisure and exercise, than putting a noose around their neck for the sake of presenting they are to the manor born, yet still existing and enjoying, a really decent, doable, and realistic standard of living. It is a beautiful estate. IF I was a billionaire I would buy it, and restore it lovingly to its full glory, and hire two grounds keepers. And two maintenance craftsmanship tradies, two domestic service attending plus myself for inside, as a well oiled machine team; and produce it as a novelty and very nice tourist accommodation abbey, of course readers . BUT, I am not a billionaire am I ? 😂 So stop suing me litigators. Stop suing me. 😁☺️😑

If you're going to tour old homes, you might want to research some old house features so you know what you're looking at and you don't sound clueless. Like marble...in the bathroom. A trash Compactor. Stair lift. Pocket doors. Lintel. Radiator, not boiler. I'm 55 and it's cringey to me to see you not know what any of this stuff is. I get it that you're young, but that doesn't mean you can't be educated.

Those doors you called sliding doors they are called pocket doors they actually save space instead of swinging in or out to hit something they slide in a pocket in the walls they are pretty neat actually. And that mahogany would work in that home was beautiful the mahogany railing and trim on the ceiling was spectacular i wish historical societies would take interest in some of these older house's and repair them instead of demolishing them this should be a CRIME but these day's wealthy people people are spoiled brats and all they have to do is sling some their money around and do whatever they want but i dont think that house is to far gone to b e saved myself!

Salvaging sliding pocket doors is easier said than done. The associated hardware was hung before the plaster and lathe were installed. Those must go with the door if it’s going to be reused as such. It’s a lot of work but well worth the effort. Take care!

I'm assuming Lake Michigan. Many of his vids are from IL and them waves were hitting hard. Its like our own little ocean ;) LOTS of erosion up and down the coast as well...could be the reason the place was sold off and being torn down but not the gate house yet

"Hidden" cameras don't really prevent anything.... Video is better with sound turned off. Now i know why never been here and not many views. Bein vacant doesn't mean wide open to illegal entry.

Great video and what a beautiful house I’m honestly surprised how great shape the house is for being so old. There is a lot of beautiful marble in this house and yes I hope they salvage as much as they can before it gets demolished. The property is beautiful. I bet it was breathtaking in its prime. Oh and those bedrooms where huge 😮 Good find !
