This is pretty crazy to watch. The trampoline place used to be the Service Merchandise I worked at during high school. It closed in 2002. The big empty slabs were Cub Foods to the east and Walmart to the west. This was one of the most bustling shopping centers in the city in the 90's.

@the4gottenprincess554 Жыл бұрын
So I used to work at that Trampoline place. The one with the three jumping kids logo. That strip mall was getting lower and lower in customers, and I remember the China buffet being the last business standing. That was like ~5 years ago. I still pass by the vacant lot when I come back to visit my hometown.
@jonathonl91 Жыл бұрын
I used to go to this strip mall growing up. I went to the walmart that used to be next to it as a kid. I i ate at the chinese restaurant probably like three yeats ago and man that was a bad idea.... makes me miss mchenry county.

Holy cow. I went here to the trampoline park for multiple birthday parties. Broke my arm there when I was 13, the only time I've ever broken a bone. My family used to talk about how all the businesses were packing up. After Walmart was demolished the foundation/parking lot became one of the top places to do donuts. Crazy to see someone with such an audience going inside something like this. Is it super risky going inside a place like this that's up for demolition? Or should you definitely be expecting police/security without extreme caution? Great video anyway.

Once the main draw store in those malls leaves or goes bust it would seem that the whole place ceases to be viable.
@bulldawg54553 ай бұрын
No, once whites no longer feel safe, they take their money elsewhere. Stores do not simply "go bust" after decades in business. Even if the anchor store fails, a better one will replace it if the area's economics are still solid in the area and white people feel safe coming to shop and letting their kids hang out there..

So from the big building on down the last few businesses that existed in those locations were: Party City & Big Lots (Formerly a Service Merchandise) Lifesource Blood Donations Game Stop Tae Kwon Do Studio Mega Trampoline Park GNC King Buffet Maurice’s The two giant things that were already torn down were last a random supermarket (not a major chain) and a Walmart.

Trampoline place was a servce merchandise when i was a kid in the 90s. Also, where the walmart used to be was a cub foods at some point b4 that. My memory a little hazy. There used to be alot of abandon buildings in mchenry County, old farm houses, and a giant mink farm, but these things are now in the past. Anyhow, fun video.

Fun-Fact: Economist are actually predicting Malls to *RETURN FROM THE GRAVE*. They wont really be shopping orientated persay, they'll be rebranded as "Life-Centers" and and sort of act as community gathering spots. The real question however is the future of big box stores. Even before crime became a problem nationally and the economy began to tank, Big Box Stores were already starting to strain. Some have argued the modern design choices may have something to do with it. People don't really go to Big Box Stores unless they have to where's in the early 2000's and 80's and 90's it wasn't uncommon for people to just go to box stores and relax.

So much could be salvaged as usable construction supplies, like all that unpainted drywall for instance. Those are worth 20 bucks a pop if there's no water damage. The doors, most electrical fixtures, ductwork, not to mention any steel or wood framing. But no, they'll just bulldoze it and dump it all. What a waste.
