Jim Baird: Stripers & Mackerel fishing charter for a catch & cook over the fire was first on the list of our Gaspé adventures. A road trip to maritime Québec put us at a drive-up campsite in Carleton Sur Mere on the Gaspé Peninsula after dark and we awoke to a view of the Atlantic Ocean the next morning. We then met with the fishing outfitter - Pêche Sportive and headed out to do some saltwater fishing. After casting soft baits (using standard, medium weight fishing rods, and 20lb test mono) for a little while - we headed for deeper water in Bair-des-Chaleur to troll for Stripers. The bite wasn't on so we began jigging for Mackerel and caught 17 fish! It was our first time fishing for Mackerel (and Striped Bass too) and we were excited to catch these beautiful and hard fighting fish. When the temperature warmed a little we headed back in closer to shore trolling. Tori and I had a double hook up and we both reeled in Stripers! Tori's was a nice one and we kept it for dinner. Fishing more, I landed five small Striped Bass and Tori landed another decent one before our time was up and we had to head in to dock.
Keeping our fish on ice, we cooked it up over the fire at our campsite by the ocean that evening and it was delicious. The Striped Bass was good though quite mild, and we were both surprised that we liked the flavour-packed Mackerel even more. We both gorged on fish and then turned in for the night. The following day would be a full-on as we'd begin our canoe trip down the Bonnaventure River where we'd fly fish for Atlantic Salmon (something neither of us had much experience with). This time, we'd be poling the river - each standing in our own canoes and controlling our down river progress with long poles, another first for both of us!
Check out Pêche Sportive Baie-des-Chaleurs if you're interested in a Striper and Mackerel fishing charter in Gaspésie. www.pechesport...

It's Lobster fishing season where I was raised in NS . If You have been watching the news lately You probably heard about it .The boys are fighting with the Natives over catching limits . I think I side with the Natives on this one , they have a treaty right to catch Lobsters. . It's the gov. fault They are not setting a limit on how much can be caught and it can deplete the stock . Treaty says the Natives can catch a enough for a medium income . In NS a medium income is 35000- 4500 a yr . Price per lb to the fisherman right now is $ 6.25 per lb . Average catch per day is 100 lb per day .= $ 625. × 5 days .so You can see why the white guys are so upset . Thats not medium income . If this keeps up the stock can be depleted . Gov. Needs to step in and decide how much can be caught daily . That way everyone is treated fairly . Gov. is not doing its job . So the fishermen are taking the law into thier own hands . That is not right either . Hu , Trudeau must go . Natives got thier processing plant. Burnt to the ground and the police do nothing .RCMP are not doing thier job either . If this problem is not solved and quickly someone is going to get hurt , maybe killed . Mike .

Nice striper and mackeral fishing. I like fishing for the big guys, but I like rowing my row boat around Raccoon Island in Quincy Bay, Massachusetts. Trolling when rowing is pretty nice to catch schoolie stripers for catch and release. I always use a tube and worm, 3/8 dia. X 10" long with a weight to take it about a foot below the surface. Keep up the good camera work and your videos. Sam Miceli NE USA, 12 Mile's south of Boston, Massachusetts, in Hough's Neck Quincy, MA.

Nice, ya they don’t get as big this far north but they still get a lot bigger than the bigger one we caught - about 15lbs. I thought it was pretty cool thst at first we were fishing for them with freshwater bass tactics only in the ocean. Nest thst freshwater and salt water species have distinct similarities

I remember many times going to the warf this time of yr when the Makeral were running and catching loads of them . We used to jigg them with a hook with a big shinny lead wieght . I think they are mostly gone now , due to over fishing from the Japenese fleet . As for the Gaspe' ? I have said it before and I will ssy it agsin .I looks very much like the French shore of NS . I envy the ability to just head out not far from shore and catch so many of these delicious mackerel! To bad about the over fishing like that. That sucks. They seemed to still be plentiful in this area. Glad you liked the vid and I’m looking forward to making it to NS and the French Shore before too long as well. Have a great one!...oh and we were using a heavy spoon like you’re explaining too, seemed to work great.

It's not that big a deal but I'm wondering what that rectangular rock structure is jetting out from the shoreline at 2:43? It looks man-made. Could it be an old pier, I wonder.😐
