Oooh I do love a striped top, or 10! And hopefully you do too as I’ve dedicated a whole video to it! Just sharing a few favourite ways I’ll be styling mine this Spring:) Which is your favourite outfit? Also, I’m so sorry for the sound on this video, and the irony in this video of talking about wanting everything to be perfect and then I mess up with the microphone:/ I often wear tops I can clip it too but tried placing it on the floor in this one, it hasn’t worked as you can hear:( Sorry everyone, it really annoys me it sounds so ‘tinny’ but I really like the outfit ideas so it seemed a shame not to show you. Oh and I nearly forgot, Happy Mother’s Day to anyone celebrating!!! But to be honest whether you’re a Mummy or not, you are all wonderful and deserve spoiling today just for being you! Hi Jess, you're wearing my favorite top. I own 5 or 6 Breton tops of varying stripe widths ... most navy and white to go with navy pants and dark jeans; also a black and white for black pants; and a green and white to go with green khakis. In Colorado I've found them at Talbots, Lands End or L.L. Bean. My motto is "all things French" .... and thanks to you I discovered Polene bags ... went a bit nuts ... Great way to start my Sunday! I am 1.63, which is considered really short in the Netherlands... so I was always aware of that and had learned not to wear horizontal stripes. But now I moved to Germany where I don't stand out that much, so maybe I should try again, especially with your other tips to look taller (I've been binge watching your videos, haha). I am a lover of good quality second hand and yesterday I saw a great stripy jumper here in Munich. Hi Sandra, thank you for the Mother's Day wishes:) I need to go back to bed to let my boys do their thing bringing me a cup of tea in bed haha! I would absolutely wear stripes if you like them whether I was petite or not:) If you're wanting to lengthen your shape a little you could just be mindful what you pair them with and let that part do the elongating for you. And perhaps look for slightly thinner stripes than anything too thick and bold. And if you can find a great one for you second hand then happy days all round! One more thing, I've been looking into fully translating my videos and the description box for a few key languages spoken around the world:) It would be quite a lengthy process on my part so I'm wondering if this would be actually helpful for a lot of people? Everyone puts me to shame speaking English so wonderfully when I am not fluent in any other language:/ But if this would be helpful I'm happy to try and do this for future videos, just let me know x

Hi Jess, I am originally trained as a translator (studied English, German and French). I have found that there has been less and less need for translation services in the past few years. A lot of companies across Europe are adopting English as their corporate language and the younger generations now grow up watching KZbin etc, which is mostly in English. The only language that might make sense would be Spanish as it is so widely spoken and English might not be as widely spoken in rural areas of Latin America (but analyse your statistics first before you go through the trouble). Maybe I'm being selfish here, but I honestly wouldn't bother, if I were you, Jess; as a teacher of English as a second language, I know that English is a Lingua Franca, and used so prolifically around the world - eg it's used in India as the unifying language of banking and air traffic, since there are so many different languages spoken in that country.

I love a good stripe! Must admit to owning more than i probably should. I love the ideas and outfits you've put together, some really good inspiration. My wardrobe is not so neutral heavy or as minimalistic as yours (although I do wear a full on neutral outfit when the mood takes me), and that's maybe why we disagree on one thing - I don't dislike a bit of embellishment on my stripes - I have a navy/ecru one with a denim blue leopard print at the top (my all time favourite breton, I wish I'd bought two of, so I can enjoy it for longer), and a cobalt blue/ cream one with red sequins. I suppose both of these are a way on introducing another pattern to my stripes - in winter I'll often wear a silk scarf that picks out the colours of the stripes, but in summer I'll create a pattern mix with either a skirt or trousers in a (usually) floral pattern in coordinating colours to my striped top.

Haha yes I'm so with you there! I don't need anymore and then I find one in a different shade or with a cute button and I just can't help myself! In my defence though they all get a lot of wear so I guess I spent wisely eventually! Re embellishments as always, I would say if you love it and you feel nice in it then absolutely style what makes you happy:) I just have this weird aversion to embellishments but that certainly doesn't make it right or wrong, just my own little quirk I guess:) And never say never, I shall keep my eyes peeled for a little sparkly Breton and who know it may just become a new favourite! Love the stripes Jess and I can tell you own quality pieces because the stripes across the chest line up exactly with the stripes on the sleeve. I always check for that when shopping. Have a lovely day!

I bought my first Breton striped sweater (100% cotton) at Marimekko in San Francisco around 1978 or 1979 (navy on white), when they really weren’t very popular yet. I always felt so chic in it, with dark-blue straight-leg jeans, which were just starting to replace the bell-bottoms of the 70s, and my burgundy wool bomber jacket. I would wear that outfit today. I wore that sweater at least weekly for ten years. Not knowing any better, I was a teenager, I vigorously machine-washed it after every wearing, but it just lasted and lasted. I wish I could find one so great nowadays. I remember that on that Marimekko shopping trip I also bought a beautiful burgundy cashmere scarf and matching pair of gloves, this was really my first adult clothes shopping, after I began making some money. A relative took my scarf to lend to his girlfriend, without my knowledge, and she promptly lost it, but I still have the gloves.

I agree though that the small stripes can be hard on the eye, I used to have a t-shirt like that and I couldn’t look at it 😂 My favourite outfit is the red striped top with the beige and camel colour palette, I really like how you played with the different warm tones and ended up with a very coherent outfit.

So agree with you about the versatility of stripes with one of my favourite being a long sleeved shirt (in a cotton blend) that is constructed with varying vertical patterns (Bengal/Pin/Hairline/Pencil etc.) and in the same colour family being grey and white. Also have a few horizontal striped pullover sweaters (jumpers) including t-shirts; the latter of which I often pair with one of my blazers. (From: Canada Age: 76 years)

I’ve always happily worn horizontal stripes, even though I have a larger bust, and since menopause, not much waist definition. I think it’s a myth that these are “not flattering”, if the fit is good, they are flattering. I like vertical stripes, too.

This may be my favorite video from you! I love stripes, but it took me awhile to feel comfortable in how to style my Saint James tops. You've nailed the way to wear stripes. Thank you for sharing! I'll be returning for my month in Paris this spring, and I'm going to try the Sézane marinières, which I think you may be wearing the Colette in some of these outfits (edited: saw your link, so yes)? I'm happy to see the use of cognac/brown with the stripes, as I take a cognac leather bag and ballet flats to Paris. My favorite ballet flats are M. Gemi Danza. The Polène shop is just a few blocks from my rental apartment in 2eme! I pass it all the time when I'm in Paris.

Last year I ordered what looked like the perfect beige and white striped pocket tee. When it arrived, it had a strip of rhinestones across the top of the pocket that wasn’t visible in the image. I just took my embroidery scissors and cut it off, it was hand-stitched rather loosely, and I think it was a great improvement, I hate embellishments like that. I don’t care if they’re trending again, I’m not buying them.

To be honest, that goes for most of my clothes as I think just a nice simple chain necklace and some earrings are suffice. Hello 👋🏼 my friend Jess, because of you & your love for stripes, I now love stripes😅. I have a cream & black striped Breton. I changed the buttons to gold buttons (to match my jewelry & belt). I love the base color suggestion to create tons of outfits. Love the stripes with the khaki &/or ecru. I have a leather blazer, I am going to try this. I'm still trying to master the tucking trends. What about if you have amble bossoms, hourglass shape & a short waist? Maybe you could do a tucking your shirt video 🤔🙏🏽? Another wonderful video 👏🏽👏🏽. See you next weekend. Cheers 😉🌷

Morning Angela, how's your week been my lovely? Glad to hear I've recruited you into becoming a stripe lover haha! They just always work don't they, especially with a blazer at the moment:) Do try your leather blazer, that'll really give it that extra bit of polish and in terms of tucking, well that's a minefield of trial and error:/ Sometimes I do it and think I look ridiculous and end up tucking it all back in again and others it works how I visualise in my head! With your shape I would make sure you unbutton a little on the chest to subtly show some skin to help give the look more shape and roll up the sleeves to waist level to draw the eye to that area:) Let me know how you get on lovely! @@FashionStyleEdit Aha 👏🏽👏🏽. I knew you would have a great suggestion. I will give that a shot. This week is spring cleaning the garage 😵‍💫😬. But, I know I will be happy when it is done. As for the weather, it is going back & forth between nice 66°/18° to 43°/6°. Last week, we had rain & thunder storms. Today it was cool, but sunny 🤦🏽‍♀️. So, when you go out for errands it is best to dress in layers & keep a windbreaker/raincoat in the car. I hope you are having lovely weather. Thank you 😊. Cheers 😉🌷
