Im surprised how many fisherman prefer Righty reels. The only time I would care to give up my dominant rod hand is when you need the power on reels 30W and up for Tuna, and even then it feels awkward lol

I agree. I can use either, but I prefer lefty when working an artificial bait. Some guys can’t crank even a foot if it’s on the left side with a conventional but have no problem with a spinning. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

Important things to keep in mind covor alot of water fast retrieve to get reactions during warm weather slower variety of retrieve speeds an pauses. Lastly one cast per spot I'm trying to make one cast per spot a habit sadly at times I get comfortable at a spot an I shouldn't I need to keep moving 😅

@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS3 жыл бұрын
That can vary. If the lake has lots of smaller fish only up to 10lbs I like the biggest Herring I can find. If the lake holds fish up to 20lbs I like 6-8” Gizzard Shad. If the lake holds fish up to 40lbs and up I like big Rainbow trout up to 16”.

why are you using those small rods? It seems so light what is the reason?
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS3 жыл бұрын
For jigging you want a rod that gives the jig short sharp pumps. A short flexible light rod is not only best for that, but they won’t wear you out after jigging for hours. A long stiff rod will hook less fish, lose more fish after hook-ups and will kick your but fast.

What would you say new boat beater car. Or new car beater boat
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS3 жыл бұрын
Me personally, I LIVE by beater car, new boat because fishing is my living mostly. I drive a 98 Dodge Ram Cummins 2500 with 460,000 miles I put on it. It’s not pretty and doesn’t have all of the computerized bells and whistles, but it runs just as smooth as several 2020’s I’ve been in and it always takes care of me. So I guess; as long as it’s the right beater 😁😁

Ha. Well, since you asked. It refers to our character. Our mindset. We love, respect, and take good care of our wives. We show great respect for our elders and pioneers of the sport. We appreciate our military and their sacrifices. We try to say thank you in a very small way with giveaways and free trips. We teach our children the same values along with discipline and love. We respect all people and look for ways to help those that need it and protect those that can’t protect themselves. We try to live like our Grandparents did with a few tweaks for today’s flow. 😉😉😉😉😉😁. Thanks for the comment brother! Mike how are you rigging those spoons? What leader and length and swivel? Thanks!!
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS3 жыл бұрын
I have 50lb braid so I use 30lb fluoro but mono will be just as good for a spoon. We use Fluoro in the crystal clear lakes. I use a long leader around 25 ft long (more of a topshot) so I know my depth instantly. I can see the 25 mark at a glance that way. The spoons come with a swivel but I add a swivel between the spoon and hook. You will lose a lot less fish with that swivel. There is a link to the spoons in The description too. Thanks brother!!!

I started extremely young. Too young to really know for sure, but less than 5 years old. I started working the bait shops at age 14 and guiding by 15 so I was on the water almost everyday until it froze. I moved from NJ to NC when I was 21 and guided full time and I’m 48 now.
