You should get a net that is made of rubber instead of nylon. Better on the fish nylon have knots like that rub of there coating. Also for smaller stripers can a smaller spoon be use the same way? We only have resident fish here in the Chesapeake bay in the summers. Or what a good size spoon for 19-24 inchers. Those big spoon would be used in the late fall and winter here. Also I watch another video guy using the same spoons but not action. 2mph drift and the current gave the action for the spoon 60ft of water. Have you done this way?

No knots in the net brah! 😊It’s flat and rubber coated. In freshwater I catch 10” Stripers on these spoons. It’s all about the baitfish in the area. If there is tiny baitfish around the spoons don’t work well. Big baitfish around the spoons clean house👍.

@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS There were several repeated sections in the video, all in the latter half I think. Thought at first I was not paying close attention. It reminded me of a saying from the late great Yogi Berra. "It is deja vu all over again". No worries from me. I make errors every day. If I can laugh about it, all is good. Great channel.

Hi Mike, love all the videos. I'm a largemouth fisherman, but currently trying to get into more striper/hybrid fishing. I've had limited success using live herring on clarks hill (still learning how to locate them), and looking into adding some spoons to the arsenal as well. For someone just starting to get into targeting these fish, what size spoon would you recommend trying out first? Honestly looking to target quantity over quality since I'm just starting out. Was thinking of starting out with some 4"-5.5" spoons.
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS

I would stay with 6” and 8”. Once you get down past 20” the spoon starts to “shrink” in a way. You want to keep the spoons moving constantly. Fish can’t really tell the exact size of a spoon fluttering like crazy in stained water. Most southern lakes are stained to some degree. Unless you have crystal clear water and fish less than 20’ deep stay with 6” and 8”. Southern lakes have big Gizzard Shad in them, Stripers feed on them constantly. 👍👍👍

The biggest problem is the gill maggots. Once they showed up everything dropped off. They say they have no effect, but I believe they do. Kerr used to be 15lber heaven. Now it’s 5lber. Still some better fish around but far from what it was. It’s a beautiful lake. Hopefully things will rebound.

What was EQUALLY humbling, was nobody ever mentioning my name connected to them.😝😂. Fishermen can be quite unusual that way. You know exactly what I’m talking about. To be honest, it’s really not a big deal. I am an extra simple dude. I don’t crave attention, the few hardcore fishermen like yourself know and that’s PERFECTLY fine with me! 🙏🙏🙏😁❤️. Mike, I use a ranger net that is 31x41 and 48 inches deep. It does not fold but has no problem netting the big cats on Gaston. The foldable nets I tried in the past would not hold up. It is a little bulky to store at times but very durable.

Hey Mike, Love the videos! I am guessing you don’t use the flutter spoons unless you mark fish. As someone who has an old fish finder that only has traditional sonar how would you suggest we try and find fish? We look for birds working and bunker pods but what about for deeper subsurface fish? Hope we get lucky? Thanks in advance!
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS 3 күн бұрын
Thanks for your support brother!!! Traditional sonar is all you really need as long as your machine marks fish up to 20mph at least. I use traditional sonar when looking on plane. It’s still the fastest sonar. Once I see some on sonar I slow down to 15mph and search with side scan. You’re correct, I don’t drop a spoon until we mark Stripers or at least bait schools. Unfortunately the birds don’t help much in spring. Fall and winter is best for bird chasing. If you can get side scan, your success will BLAST OFF. please let me know if you need help with any other questions. Keep me posted on your fishing👍👍👍. Thanks brother!!!🙏🙏🙏👍

The gold/silver is a killer pattern so you’re set either way. We wanted the double gold because on sunny days the silver can be a bit too bright, especially in clear water. We will still use both. Double gold is more forgiving as it’s good on sunny OR cloudy days 👍👍👍

if my sonar cone is 30 ft in diameter how do I know if the fish was on the left side, right side, or directly under the boat?
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS 6 күн бұрын
With this type of sonar you won’t ever be able to know what side of the boat the fish is on. You will only kntow where the fish is when you are actively marking the fish in the a acope (when the fish return is on the furthest right side of the screen). Once the return moves left, it’s now only shown in the history and is no longer within the transducer cone. If you check out my other videos on side scan you will see how we can tell what side the fish is on.

When the sidescan is showing the jig, the distance indicator is showing how far it is from the transducer. Not just sideways, but depth too. So when you said it was showing as around 14ft from the boat, but the jig was under the boat, it was showing how far it was from the transducer .... the screen was indicating 15.5ft of water, and the jig was just off the bottom. It was doing its job!
