We're halfway through our 14-week Striper Migration Report series, and this week, OTW's Assistant Editor Matt Haeffner is joined by Scott Thomas of Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park, NJ, and On The Water's Editor, Jimmy Fee. Scott and Matt discuss the arrival of cow stripers from Chesapeake Bay and the Delaware River, where to focus your efforts between the bays and the ocean surf, and how to weed out bluefish by using jigs and "throwing the snot". Then, Jimmy and Matt run through fishing with flutter spoons, the current state of the migration around Cape Cod, how to approach striper fishing during the worm hatch, and when the bass will set up on schools of squid in the rips of Vineyard and Nantucket Sounds.
This week, trophy class stripers from the Chesapeake pulled up off the coast of New Jersey, a wave of 30-inch-class migratory fish hit the shores of Connecticut, 20-pounders rounded the eastern tip of Long Island, and liced-up schoolies reached Maine!
